Ghost Dance was a movement that swept across America in the late 1800s/leading up to the death of Sitting Bull, etc.

it started with a man named Wovoka;

"Wovoka's prophecy of an end to colonial expansion while preaching goals of clean living, an honest life, and cross-cultural cooperation by Native Americans"

they believed that all the dancing would lead them to a life of freedom.

there is a book called The Ghost Dance by James Mooney on archive.org It's his first hand account of the movement, and his time with the tribes.
