Im from the area. Graduated from Michigan in 1987. I have multiple generations of Michigan grads in my family and have had three grads in last 3 years. Ann Arbor has always been leftist and woke before woke was a term, a bastion of hippie degeneracy (naked mile, hash bash). Ill never forget when they turned the Second Chance into a gay bar in the mid 80s. I call Ann Arbor little San Francisco.
And now the leftism is infecting a lot of the small towns around Ann Arbor. Dexter has been lost. And then as you go north on US23 Brighton, Hartland and Fenton are battling for their souls. Hartland is pretty bad but the video of Slutkins townhall in Hartland in 2019 gives one hope.
But all these city governments, and others like South Lyon, model themselves on the Ann Arbor template. Were trying to vote them out in my town and so far have kept a pretty clean school board. At this point Livingston County is still a red island in a sea of blue.
I'm in Farmington Hills and I was thinking I'd like to go "further out" and considered all the places you just mentioned, but like you're saying, those places are going down hill too. So, now I'm not sure exactly where to go. If we could have a true Great Awakening maybe things will get better.
I may have overstated how bad it is. Livingston County is still in pretty good shape. We are still safely red. Get away from 23 and Howell, Pinckney and Fowlerville are hard core red. My school district avoided the most heinous covid bullshit. Hartlands biggest problem is that thier schools have veered so far left but I think that will be remedied in this election. I drive far and wide in this area along a lot of dirt roads and two lane highways and judging from the signage I see this County is still pretty overwhelmingly hard right.
How is Milford fairing? I'm originally from Highland and attended Milford High. Lots of rednecks when I went to school but the city folk were trying to infiltrate the town back in the 90's with their fancy restaurants and moving that way from the Detroit suburbs.
My youngest graduated from Milford. Its in the same shape. The City of is woke the surrounding areas are red. Western Oakland County cities like Milford, South Lyon, Commerce Township, West Bloomfield, Novi, Wixom and Walled Lake are being over run by H1B Indians though. The new subdivisions I work in in those cities are nearly half Indian.
...we used to live in Bloomfield Hills...moved OUT OF STATE due to job change...nevertheless, our old friends are full-on commie Hillary supporters...and THINK WE ARE LYING & NUTS when quoting stats & stuff from SOURCES OTHER THAN commie New York Times...
WHY DO THEY THINK LIKE THAT...really, can't understand 😱
Ann Arbor has always been leftist, but the acceleration of leftist degeneracy has been astounding these last 5 years. I own a property back in Ann Arbor and come back sometimes. I was disgusted driving through downtown Ann Arbor last time I came back.
I never saw drag queens everywhere back in the day. Can't do it.

Well, nice to meet a person that knows the area.
