Well, he's a Finn. We have way too many of those. Finnish spirit seems to be a constant dance between wanting freedom and independence, but at the same time feeling kind of inferior and wanting to appeal to the bigger players of the world. This is a nation that has been occupied for most of our history by our more powerful neighbors. Finns used to be seen as these backcountry hillbillies that were not good for much and most of the "civilized" part of the world didn't even know existed.
So we still get a lot of this bootlicking behavior, emulating those who seem more like they are part of the "big world" in hopes they will accept us - or whoever is doing it - as one of them.
The headline-linked article links to a couple others that explain why Linus had no choice but to do what he did. The blame actually should reside on the Biden Administration because of the strict sanctions they put on Russia (so they could keep their CIA playground in Ukraine). I have my issues with Linus but this isn't his fault.
fork it
etc, etc, etc

Or they have just been bought. Who knows.

Thanks for this. Looks like this "itsfoss" is a legit rag. Good comment section too.
And here comes a major fork. I'm running on a several year old version of a distro anyway that still works just fine.
