Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way

If you went on vacation in November, where would you go (in the US)? And why?
I'm worried about going on vacation because I don't know if it's a good time to go right now, with so much going on and of course the violence, especially if we fly and can't take protection with us.
Hubby wants to go on a short vacation before he starts a new job, because after that it will be a while before we can go on one. The timing will be right in Nov. with family being more able to help watch our furbabies. Of course, I would love to go away for a few days, but I'm worried something big might happen while we are away and can't get back home quickly and he's talking about somewhere far that we would need to fly 😒
where do you live? I think a Midwest/Great Lakes vacation would be safe. Wisconsin is really pretty and eastern Iowa next to the Mississippi. or maybe the Ozarks, I think we might try going there in December.
Lower Alabama, and we enjoy going places that aren’t hotter than here, lol. We went to South Dakota off season a year ago and had a great time. Didn’t really do much but we had the best time ever. It snowed almost the whole time we were there, on last day it stopped snowing and snow started melting, so we got to see how beautiful the area is with & without snow. The only thing was it was hard to find places to eat, because it was off season and most places were closed. But we saw so much wildlife. Just with things heating up with the election and not knowing what will happen, it makes me kinda nervous to go away from home, but this will be our only time to go before husband starts new job.
yes South Dakota is the best:) can drive for miles without seeing another car. the eastern side is beautiful too, especially if you're a Lewis and Clark fan; next to the Missouri with a lot of historic sites. but that's So far from Alabama:( think I'd try something closer to home, maybe small towns you've never been to.
Yes! We just drove around for hours, going through all the small towns, stop and get out of the car to enjoy the views & take a few pics. And you’re right hardly a car on the road besides us. Just quiet and peaceful, watching the deer come out of nowhere like we weren’t even there. We went and drove through the park to see the Bison, they were even licking our car. I swear we were like little kids, lol. We loved it but don’t want to go back because we want to go somewhere we’ve never been to yet.
Tough choice. I refuse to live in fear and change plans, but I'm also not stupid.
I agree, but just want to be close enough to be able to get home fairly quickly if we need to.
I would feel the same way. If you do go, best wishes and have fun!
Thanks!
I’m not traveling more than three hours away from home until after elections and maybe not until first of 2025. Also I’m not going to go into heavy liberal areas. It’s not out of fear. I prefer to stay close to home to be near my family especially my daughter and granddaughter. We both have parents in their 80s so that’s another reason.
Depends what you guys are into.
South Florida is great in November.
We already live in the south, so like to go somewhere cooler than here, lol. Lower Bama, and we also have lived in Florida so not thinking it as a vacation place. I’ve lived in like 3 areas of Florida growing up and after I married. Still have family there.
We have decided to not travel until after elections. Dont wanna be stranded somewhere with craziness unravelling everywhere, while our stock piles are back home lol
Exactly. If we go it would be after election time.
Have to drive about 4-5 hours to get back home election morning. Praying no freeways are blocked and that any planned mayhem is later!
I think any deep state trouble will be after Jan 1 and before Jan 6.
