I have hated that song since the first time I saw the video on MTV. My grandson, a huge Trump fan, could not understand why I say it is the gayest song ever. I showed him the original Village People video.
I remember when it was a hit, got played a lot in radio in my country too. That group has some pretty catchy songs easy to dance to, but yep, pretty gay. I didn't watch MTV much but I have a vague memory of seeing a movie made with that group, back when my parents got their first VHS player and I probably rented at least half of what was available in the somewhat small rental place in our town through the years when visiting home.
I’m not totally sure how they ended up on YMCA, but I remember the rallies originally ended w/ The Rolling Stones “You can’t always get what you want” but Jagger/Richard put a cease on that and not long after they had the Village people. I assume whomever owns the song was Ok with letting them use it.
remember frens, Donnie used to hang out at discos, so he does not think this song is gay, even though it is. at one time, gays hung around many ymca's as though they were the same as bath houses. hence the reason I always find this song to be gay. (and not the happy sort of gay)
My theory it sends multiple messages depending which side you're on.
If you're on team God it's high energy, uplifting.
If you're on team Satan it could be linked to dark issues that may surround YMCA organization in regards to sex trafficking. It's like a reminder Trump knows and The Hammer is coming.

I don't think he will ever forgive me.
still hate it.
I was the same way but it has grown on me and I dont visualize the Village People when I hear it anymore.
i will never forgive you. the cop, construction worker and cowboy... definitely fags. the rest are barely passable.

Public Gayness was different back then and most of that community was tolerable.
Back then a flamboyant outfit was the badge. Now insanity is.
There was a version of it that substituted MAGA for the YMCA part. I still do the MAGA version when I dance to it.
Lemme see if I can find the old video of it.

I couldn't find anything. Trump just likes the song.
It's the only song left after all the C&Ds stopped..

Just airy theory
Geezus that original vid is awful. I swore we were cooler than that then.
It's a subtle defense against the homophobe police ...
Maybe because the Village people sung it in costume representing people from all walks of life? So it comes closest to typical Americans?
