If you’ve kept track of South Korean Politics at all. This isn’t actually particularly unusual.

I think all but 1 of their previous Presidents. Has either been impeached, imprisoned or executed. Sometimes all 3. Usually by the incoming administration ever since they started having regular elections again.

The Country could be considered a failed state by that metric. But the relative strength of their economy and Cultural and ethnic Norms. Allows the current state of affairs to persist and new Governments to be elected.

Could be the South Korean Military is finally starting their phase of domestic cleanup. Reportedly the President didn’t want to activate the Military Lockdown. But was persuaded to by his SecDef and Senior Commanders.

With Rumors indicating that the show at the Parliament/Congressional Building. Was a distraction while more Soldiers and Special Investigators raided their Elections Agency.

And media silence

Korean politics has always been weird.

They will get down and brawl sometimes (though none of them seem to know martial arts).

There was a rumor flying around that there was an attempt to ensnare South Korea into the Ukraine affair. Hence the 'North Koreans' in Kursk. (oh and what happoooned to that story? Even my 81-yr old MiL was commenting on it) This narrative was aimed directly at South Korea, to engender a military/emotional kick.

It appears some rejected the narrative, because, erm, lack of proof? A picture of a Eastern Russian in Russian uniform could be passed off as a Nork, they said. The whole internet was laughing at the Ghosts, while numbers kept increasing - 10K? 12K?. Military analysts worth their salt withheld comment, and carefully pointed out that only Ukrainians had the story of Norks (with a picture of one face in a rando location - oh and a picture of brown men that weren't even Korean-looking - Vietnamese?. This, BTW was a racist manoever (trying to paint North Koreans in the collective imagination), and a typically NAzi tactics. And why? Because the 'Ukrainian intelligence' (whatever that means) wanted to tap into the South Korean capacity to make stuff.

BTW, the narrative was doomed from the start, even as it was a lie, because Swedes, Frenchmen, Poles and Americans are fighting in that war. So why not have Norks on the other side? Even as they aren't.

So it appears that South Koreans with brains, put their foot down. No, they do not want to get involved, with good reason - observe the Elensky curse on economies that get involved.

South Koreans do this frequently, BTW. They have a better meritocracy in place- Their universities are some of the best in the world: no-one can move without a real education. And so, exercising democracy means the Prez is impeached, he deserves the rebuke, for listening to Western spooks.
