Trump said, "It's going to be wild" and it certainly was. I was there. Saw the agitators working the crowd sowing lies about dead teenage girls and state capitals being siezed across the country. There were bad actors staged on all sides of the building. Some claiming Trump had called to take the capital, others saying they had seen dead patriots being carried out of the building, all of them calling to take the building. I know other patriots were hit with tear gas out of nowhere and sprayed with fake pepper spray. There was a large group already at the capital before Trump's speech even ended and people yelling at the speech attendees to " fill in the gaps" as they arrived to seeing tear gas and concussion grenades already being deployed. They withheld bathrooms and closed almost all stores. I couldn't even get a cup of coffee at our hotel. So many more details I could share but I'm realizing I will probably just make a separate post.
I was there too... we were at the front of the Capitol building, down on the circle at street level and arrived rather early since we had left the rally about 10 minutes before it ended. It was a literal sea of people approaching from Penna. Ave. and gathering at the East Front. Where we were, there was one... just ONE police officer standing behind the flimsy 3 ft. 'barrier', asking us to 'stay off the grass' , which we did... some insurrection, huh?
Other than hearing a few of those 'flash bombs' and seeing what looked like clouds of tear gas way up front... we did not witness any violence. In fact, even that stopped around 2 p.m. at the East Front and then we decided to get closer, actually climbed the steps all the way up to the main doors, which were wide open, and there were, in fact several people urging us to 'Go Inside' Capitol Police just calmly standing by.
Those urging us were not with anybody.. seemed to be there by themselves, and were very animated about how 'cool' it was. One of them, a middle aged kind of average looking man with a short haircut, no backpack, just himself, by himself, said to my friend and I "Go ahead! You'll have fun!" Thank God we didn't take the bait.
Later, we were shocked to see the footage of any violence as we were on our way back to the hotel in Alexandria around 5:00 p.m. As it turns out, all of that basically happened at the West Front.... and specifically in 'the tunnel' which is where I assume the cars for the members of Congress come and go.
It was a total setup... and even though my friend and I did not go inside, I was still visited by the FBI 6 months later, just trying to find out if I had "witnessed any criminal or violent activity".... and they asked me 3 times if I had ever gone inside. 3 times. lol.
This literally makes me ill. The capitol police were planning for this for months. But they were preparing their officers to defend attacks FROM protesters. I think once the chaos got started, most of the the officers didn't realize who started it. It just triggered them to carry out the defense drills they practiced.
Don't forget about the 4 capital police officers who got "suicided" for threatening to blow the whistle.
