To many times it's who pays you, who decides what you say...careful who you follow.

No shame in generating revenue for your work
The shame comes from not being true in your work just to generate revenue.
Promote products and services that YOU believe in AND That believe in YOU and your messaging.
If you find yourself changing/hiding or obfuscating info JUST to get a paycheck it is only THEN that you become a sellout.
Yep, the threshold of being a paytriot is when you're letting sponsors influence what you say or worse yet making shit up to generate revenue.
agreed.. pillows are ok...
You said it much more succinctly than I.
Lol
The problem is that once money comes into the picture, you find ways to generate more revenue.
I know this from first-hand experience. I was involved with talk radio back in the day, and it's comparable to podcasts and the"influencers" in my opinion.
You start out striking a nerve with a community. Your heart is in the right place. You believe in what you say. 6 months in, you still believe in what you say, but you inevitably have less of it. A year in, and you have a steady following. You get good "ratings". Your audience expects you to deliver.
You brainstorm. What's the zeitgeist? You see a chance to create controversy within your subject matter, let's say football.
You say something knowing it will create attention for your show. If you're in NY, you say Philly has a better team. And vice versa. You listen to other shows and take the opposite side of whatever it is they're whinging about.
But hey, you still believe in the basis of your show, but you have to have the ratings {clicks, influences, impressions} to even keep the show. So a little manufactured material mixed in won't hurt anyone. It's for the greater good!
But now everyone is doing it. You need to up the ante. You begin researching "underground" gossipy topics, reading forums {ahem GAW!}, and glomming from online arguments to give you material. You take a side that aggravates the most people. Or you take a very popular stance which guarantees listeners {or readers}, but maybe they aren't as passionate as the angry ones.
Nevertheless you've found your niche. You're basically taking any material you can that will ensure people will listen. Your personal view is still there somewhere. Certainly that counts for something! But now there's less and less time to get it in the show.
Now you're a Brian Cates! Or a Clandestine! You believe in 50% of what you say, the rest is the sizzle.
Right Cates?! I know he reads GAW
Agreed. Even a 'buy me a coffee' or 'join my patreon' is acceptable. One does not have to promote products.
I had a ecommerce site, promoting products that my partner and I had made, but got tired of promoting it on forums, a blog, and youtube etc., even as it was moderately successful, because so many people harrassed us online for it. (that's a whole 'nuther story). Lots of people also participated happily, of course.
Same with churches. I don't fool with a 501(c)(3) church.
Respect for the post Floridafrog.
Respect goes to "MissInformation" 🐸
In Hockey you also get an equal point for an assist..🍿💚🏒
I can't stand people pushing sponsors.
There'd be less need for sponsors if more of their viewers contributed directly. Look at how many were bitching when Rumble had to start running ads as they got bigger and need to pay for the extra bandwidth but they wouldn't even consider getting premium to avoid all ads. They've probably never supported a channel that they watch via locals either and expect everyone to keep producing videos and providing them info for free not understanding that it can turn into a full time job to do more than one video a week.
"Influencers" will go down as the scourge of this internet era.
This is America we get paid!
Us frogs need to remember “due diligence” and keep our heads screwed on tight. Some ppl are full of shit, some aren’t, it’s our job to figure that out!
There are Anons out there that have signed NDAs and some of them can’t participate in the financial windfall/NIAGRA FALLS that’s about to be dropped in the lap of ppl who are paying attention. I hope to God these NDA guys are GETTIN PAID & PAID WELL.
If not, somebody screwed up.
