If you're sending this at me round-about just know that I'll stop thinking critically after I'm actually absent from this flesh-suit and present with the Lord Jesus. I don't fully trust anybody or anything on this earth :/
Keep thinking critically, always allowing the Bible to be the first and last filter of all proposed wisdom.
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
For there is no respect of persons with God.
Leviticus 19:15, Proverbs 24:23, 1 Peter 1:16, Romans 2:11
Among all the traditions and falsehoods of a world battling for the minds of men, the following paragraphs from The Desire of Ages (pg. 509-510) may be able to give some comfort and clarity. Care to join me in reading today?
But today in the religious world there are multitudes who, as they believe, are working for the establishment of the kingdom of Christ as an earthly and temporal dominion. They desire to make our Lord the ruler of the kingdoms of this world, the ruler in its courts and camps, its legislative halls, its palaces and market places. They expect Him to rule through legal enactments, enforced by human authority. Since Christ is not now here in person, they themselves will undertake to act in His stead, to execute the laws of His kingdom. The establishment of such a kingdom is what the Jews desired in the days of Christ. They would have received Jesus, had He been willing to establish a temporal dominion, to enforce what they regarded as the laws of God, and to make them the expositors of His will and the agents of His authority. But He said, “My kingdom is not of this world.” John 18:36. He would not accept the earthly throne.
The government under which Jesus lived was corrupt and oppressive; on every hand were crying abuses,—extortion, intolerance, and grinding cruelty. Yet the Saviour attempted no civil reforms. He attacked no national abuses, nor condemned the national enemies. He did not interfere with the authority or administration of those in power. He who was our example kept aloof from earthly governments. Not because He was indifferent to the woes of men, but because the remedy did not lie in merely human and external measures. To be efficient, the cure must reach men individually, and must regenerate the heart.
Not by the decisions of courts or councils or legislative assemblies, not by the patronage of worldly great men, is the kingdom of Christ established, but by the implanting of Christ's nature in humanity through the work of the Holy Spirit. “As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12, 13. Here is the only power that can work the uplifting of mankind. And the human agency for the accomplishment of this work is the teaching and practicing of the word of God.
When the apostle Paul began his ministry in Corinth, that populous, wealthy, and wicked city, polluted by the nameless vices of heathenism, he said, “I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” 1 Corinthians 2:2. Writing afterward to some of those who had been corrupted by the foulest sins, he could say, “But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” “I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 6:11; 1:4.
Oh 🤯 my 😁 whoever wrote that managed to put into simple concise words something I've been struggling to formulate for over a year! THANK YOU for posting that! Now I want the whole book 😂
My position is maybe partway between the two. We shouldn’t try to legislate morality for certain, which is what a lot of evangelicals tend to want to do. There may be some place for this, but it needs to be limited. Every law written will have a pushback against it, justifiably, so you’d better keep control of the seat of power from the time the law is written, and moreso the more they don’t like it.
And none of that really strikes me as what we should be doing… just fighting to hold power. That’s what [they] do.
We should absolutely have control of courts, though, and be making wise, biblically sound judgments from them.
Right but how do "we" have control of courts? Who is this "we"? <---that question right there has been the cause of more religious persecution than anything else in human history. Who exactly is this 'divine we'? Therein lies the problem with Dues Vult and all the rest of that Christian Nationalism crap.
The only way is to get as many people as possible to faith in Christ, which is, as I understand it, a collaborative effort between God and man, as we know no man can come to Christ unless the Father draws them, and also how will they know if they don't hear someone preaching the true Gospel?
The more born-again believers on earth = the more "we" control the courts. The only valid "we" is the collective body of believers in Jesus. It can't be humanly quantified, which is why every movement that attempts to do so ends up corrupt and abusive.
I think we are actually in agreement here, sir. The control wouldn’t be through any sort of mandate, or code, or whatever, but simply through establishment of being there and making right rulings.
If we were truly following the Bible, I rather suspect we wouldn’t even need to bother with civic elections, but just have the congregation appoint a brother everyone trusted as having good judgment to help in resolution of disputes.
Same way that in the “the Jews are writing each other 0% loans!” thread the other day, I pointed out there’s no reason Christians couldn’t do the same. We just aren’t.
But ours wouldn’t be fiat…
“In it, not of it”, right? Ah, but what should that mean? Why did Rome resort to persecuting Christians? Was it in part because they had started to withdraw from engaging in civic law? Where’s the worldly power in that?
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean Not on your Own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will straighten thy path 🙏
Amen.
Amen!
AMEN!
I know right?
"What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me."
Psalms 56:2-3
Amen.
I'd be dooming a lot more if Trump lost.
But Trump won.
So why complain?
