Thank you for working as a nurse (retired now). We need more of those. My Aunt is also a retired RN that used to work in a hospital before transferring late in her career to a nursing home. She was extremely helpful in helping me make decisions when my Mom was in the hospital and then a nursing home until she died last year.
She helped guide my daughter and my nephew (who had lived with Mom after his mother (my sister) died and he was still a minor) through the differences between things like DNR and DNI, and helped me make my decision based on real-world data and the current situation Mom was in. It was ultimately my decision as her son and next-of-kin, but I wanted my daughter and nephew to be a part of it and to understand why I made the decision I did. Both were against the DNR but my aunt was able to change their minds thanks to their trust in her versus people they didn't know. Dementia, sepsis, UTI, CHF, diabetes, and a 4 inch bedsore wound to the bone made her end of life really bad and extending that would be cruel. Hospice helped her a lot and probably gave her an extra month or 2 of time to be able to talk to people she wanted to talk to while she was lucid.
The actual reason I posted - the general public doesn't understand HIPAA. It doesn't apply to everyone. Here is the HHS site that explains who is covered and who is not. IMHO it really needs to be rewritten, but this is what it is now. They should rename it as well because almost everyone misspells it. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (everyone seems to spell it HIPPA instead of HIPAA). Even when I did penetration tests at hospitals, it was constantly misspelled on the forms they gave us asking us to protect the data.
As nurses working in the hospital we could be fired on the spot for breaching HIPAA, so I am sensitive, conditioning. Thank you for your kind words. I was feeling a little beat up.
I so identify with that! NGT is the worst! It is a tough call to wait it out or have surgery to cut the scar tissue that then makes more scar tissue. Iβve been battling this since 93β became more pronounced the older I got. Praying for you catturd!
I just stumbled upon this news by pure accident. No add'l details. Hopefully nothing serious and he just over-celebrated after the inauguration. (?)
Catturd blocked up by a giant turd is kinda funny.
As a friend of his put it: Literally and medically full of shit.
I laughed.
Nothing that a sack of White Castles couldnβt fix.π¬

I hope he doesn't mind you sharing his personal medical information. HIPPA no longer in effect?
Being a retired RN I never assume, but noted.
As a nurse you should know that it isn't HIPPA it's HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
You are right.
Also a nurse. I get HIPAA wrong most of the time. HIPPA just looks better.

Likely an easy fix. My Honey just got scar tissue removed from a past knee surgery yesterday, and is walking around comfortably.
