Got an email from ms this morning telling me I was at risk of losing my one drive or something for not having accessed it for 2 years. Since I hadn't accessed it, and didn't remember even using it I deleted the email. Got notice on several of my win10 pcs that there was an update ready to install today. Since I am working on stuff and I hate running updates when things are running OK, I paused it for seven days to ignore it. Now I see this.
Thanks for the heads up that this is happening, even if I don't use cloud storage.

I don't use the cloud...
If you don't have it in your possession, you don't own it.

Don't you just love everyone using the buzzword "Cloud", while it only really means someone else's storage?

Use Tiny10. Supported until 2032.
Save it encrypted on an external USB-drive if you only have one drive in your box.
now you can create an encrypted drive and if you are a bit more safeguarding: create a hidden volume/container in there. Double Whammy.
So, what about remembering passwords and stuff ....
Well, you could use an innocuous key file with stenography in it.
Or you could use a browser extension as a password manager. Also very nice to sync it between devices .... DON'T DO IT!
Use keypassxc, and if you must use it on a handheld: hardsync it over the wire. -less is in deed care-less.

bro, if your data was already in the cloud, you can't just take it off. they already have it.
So, how many backups do you think they've done, "protecting your data"? Can't delete what's on a backup; it's no longer in your control.
