Yeah, Norman Lear and Carroll OβConner wanted to use aitf to poke fun at Christian Conservative patriotic Americans. They were as out of touch then, as Hollywood is now. They thought Archie would be seen as a buffoon. They didnβt understand that most of middle America knew and loved an Archie type. Probably had one in their home. It was a funny show, but the actual actors hated us back then too.
My brother and I were talking about why they want to kill off Gen X so bad. We are the last generation to know what it was like to grow up in a dysfunctional but more-free time in our country.
I was reading something about Redd Foxx yesterday. I canβt believe he was only 50 years old in β72. People really looked so much older back in the day.
Add Blazing Saddles to that list! π€£
And "Married with Children" lol

The ones portrayed as fools, bigoted, backwards?
They were right all along.

This is the reason I always preferred Sanford and Son.
Both shows were before my time--I saw them in syndicated reruns. But Sanford holds up so much better, and didn't preach to you.
Plus the guy that played Lamont is now a minister.
Isn't it ironic?
We all have a sense of humor from growing up during the time when those shows were popular.
I know things were simpler back then.
I sure do miss my dear friend Fred. :(
Yes he was hilarious.
Do you remember the episode with Champipple?
That episode was the best.
I have the complete series on DVD.
I watched it when it first aired and then on reruns.
One if my favorite shows, hence the username.
I loved when he told Aunt Esther that he would shove her face into some dough and make gorilla cookies.
He truly was a gem.
There are also a few episodes that were only aired once, maybe twice and then never aired again, but are on the full series set.
One was where Fred went to court and used the N word, another is where they are hired by a very gay, older man to move a piano into his apartment.
I saw the piano one on TV about two months ago.
That is very surprising.
It wasn't shown on TV for decades.
I know the courtroom episode won't be shown any time soon.
I saw it on the Sundance channel.
I haven't seen the courtroom yet.
These shows were great back in the day but not one of them could be aired today!
You are correct.
Missing Al Bundy
He was one of a kind.
They will never understand what was taken from them
My brother and I were talking about why they want to kill off Gen X so bad. We are the last generation to know what it was like to grow up in a dysfunctional but more-free time in our country.
Yes so sad.
You big dummy!

Funny show.
