There seem to be several groups teaching and practicing historical swordplay in UK. They must be getting nervous by now, it can't be all that long before somebody there gets the bright idea to also ban the traditional European swords and other similar historical weapons, at least the reproduction versions.
I have bought a couple of longswords myself, and one practice version, and do train. Because in my country (Finland) getting and owning a firearm these days requires jumping through a lot of hoops and getting on several lists, but at least for now you can get a usable replica sword without leaving much of a trail anywhere, no permits required. Actually fighting with a sword against other sword user might require a lot more skill than I will ever manage to get, but if it is just somebody with a knife or bare hands a sword would certainly be better than nothing, even if the user is not particularly well trained. Home defense... as of course I can't easily carry one with me, swords are not exactly easy to carry concealed. I am looking for certain type of bags though. And it can be hidden in a car at least.
But what if the Lady of the Lake figures England needs a new king, and will push Excalibur - I think she got it back - on some unsuspecting fisherman? (In a lot of versions Excalibur is given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake, and the Sword in Stone is another sword)
