First off, the 'Future Transarctic Shipping Route' is only a thing if your a moronic climate idiot. Could only be possible if the permanent sea ice all melted. That would require big changes to the Beaufort Gyre (not impossible but not likely anytime soon)
Second, the NW Passage is open for only a very short time. And the seasonal sea ice fluctuates year to year. As we near a grand solar minimum expect this passage to be less available.
Third, the Northern Sea route has always been a thing. We used it for the lend lease act during WW2. The Norwegian Vikings used it to enter the Russian river system (and found Kiev lol) and establish a route through to the Black Sea and all the way to Constantinople and the Mediterranean.
Greenland is about China and their attempts to become an arctic power. Putin even alluded to it in his speech this past week.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, frog. Russia’s 36 million tons of cargo shipped the Arctic sea routes in 2023 via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) is straight from their reported shipping logs. No climate change fantasies required. Russia has deployed a world record largest fleet of over 40 icebreakers, seven of which are nuclear powered. They are absolutely not effing around.
I still think one of the reasons Trump talks about Greenland is so he could put a Guantanamo style prison up there. The current one might not be big enough real soon.
Oh really? I've been there idk maybe 2002. I don't remember seeing it. But in fairness, my ship was there maybe 2 weeks and I didn't explore the island.
I've been there for a few weeks. Very small, and condensed from my memory. Airfield, housing, logistics are pretty much all that is there. I think there is recreation aswell but it's a shitty island resort to put it simply. There could be a prison there but I don't remember seeing it, my travels on the island were from the ship to the commissary and back.
I don’t get it.
What this means: A new shipping route which is faster, and cheaper.
POTUS is a Brilliant Stable Genius! ✨ This is YUGE! 💥
Looks like a leftist fever dream to me.

Not sure what's vertical about it, except for the funky map orientation.

We have another one in Diego Garcia that's much more covert that Gitmo.

Have you guys seen a map of Diego Garcia? It's literally like a runway and some hangers. It's very small, isn't it?

Buying entire countries to obtain shipping routes is vertical integration?
So...is this ice road truckers? Because those lanes are covered in ice.
