We should have the right to opt out. If the amount we put in over 30 or 40 years instead went into an index fund, we would all be millionaires and could retire comfortably.
Exactly, I already have a savings account and a 401K, if money wasn't forcibly taken from me for social security, I could put that money where it will be useful and possibly make more than what I'd receive in SS. People should have the option to opt-out. Understandably, there are a lot of people who aren't good with money and don't think about the future, they can stay opt-in. However, I'm great with money and the government shouldn't decide what's done with my SS money, because clearly they're using it somewhere else π
I have said that all along, if I could invest that money instead of .gov, I would likely be retired by now. It has been a scam since inception. Fuckers...
I think they saw this coming so they started Secure Savings to force people to contribute to an IRA. They kindly pass this on to employers to sort out and get going, then the government handles everything from there. I live in Colorado so all of this was implemented 1-2 years ago. In addition to Social Security, Medicare, federal & state withholding, we also added another tax for FAMLI (paid leave), then Secure Savings. I'm shocked I even have a paycheck!
Eventually you 'owe' the government more than you earn. But they are nice enough to giveth thee vouchers or chits for food, gas, housing, etc.
Because it didn't matter that you were good with money. A bunch of people weren't so you have to pay for them too. You aren't special. You do not deserve more than someone else just because you work harder, smarter, and more responsible...π€·
I'd have been gone in 2022 but my folks live here and I can't leave them. I keep praying my Dad will want to move, but he designed and built his house, and the one next door that was his folks' house until they both passed and my brother bought the house.
We have some years into this little town, be hard to leave it behind, but Colorado is the new California, so if they ever give the idea merit, we'll be gone! Otherwise, screw that! We built a life here, we aren't giving that up! π€£

Sure if they wanted YOU to be wealthy
It does go to an index fund, and it makes them wealthy
And youβre lucky to get out what you put in

This is what they don't want.
Back when Social Security started Galveston TX found a loophole and they opted out.
When they retired they were well over 5K a month.
Social Security closed that loophole fast.

Communism starts little. That shit is insidious.
And it has definitely started little in the USA! I hope we can save this country!
Time to move!
