Whelp, it's been a wild ride. He had pre-existing tinnitus and managed it for seven years and then his symptoms blew up when he took an antibiotic for an infection. He's triple jabbed for what it's worth, despite my begging and pleading.
Short story is after the antibiotic thing he was in 24/7 fight or flight panic mode with no sleep and airplane engine noise raging in his head, so he then tried to test his own hearing to investigate whether a certain device awaiting FDA approval might work, and it turns out that at least anecdotal evidence suggests that listening to "pure tones" if you have Tinnitus (and even if you don't), is not a good idea. Now he's convinced that he would have recovered from the antibiotic incident and gone at least back to his baseline, but he's totally "fucked himself" by listening to the pure tones. His Tinnitus is extremely high frequency and he has dysacusis which is noise distortion.
He is very situationally depressed. It's like he is a totally different person. I am trying to help him stay positive to no avail. He is seeing a cognitive behavioral therapist so we will see what happens with that. He's seen numerous ENT's and It's been 8 weeks or so of total hell TBH. We are seeing an Oto-neurologist hopefully soon. The guy in Chicago we were referred to's first available is January 2026. So we are shopping that around. Hard to believe that there is limited things you can do for this, but it's true. Please pray. Appreciate you all so much.
Other than prayers, I don't know how much this will help. But it is my real situation.
I suffered from tinnitus for years! I got a electronic emission tester to see what waves I was subject to. I tried everything.
I finally went to a respected hearing specialist and underwent a battery of physical tests! I can't remember all of them. Afterwards, he diagnosed stress and wanted to put me on a prescription. I didn't believe him! He said: I know it is stress from what you brought in with you -- referring to my tote bag of work so as to make use of every single moment of waiting time for "productive" work! I didn't believe him! I did not fill the prescription!
I no longer have tinnitus. Well I do get buzzing and etc. but is no longer bothers me.
Honestly I do not remember when or how it happened. I did get treatment for stress and anxiety.
Apparently, I resolved the "hyper-alertness" and the conflict, as explained by German New Medicine. https://www.newmedicineonline.com/tinnitus/
Without back then knowing about German New Medicine. I have had other unresolved conflicts, and have used German New Medicine to help me enter the healing phase.
IOW there is hope! And mostly not, from the medical establishment . . .
prayers fren!
If you are willing to entertain unusual alternative treatments, you will be interested in Darko Velcek. I suggest you read his intro first: https://darkovelcek.wordpress.com/introduction/
And then maybe one of his articles that addresses tinnitus: https://darkovelcek.wordpress.com/?s=Tinnitus
The quick advice is to adopt a keto or carnivore diet while keeping yourself well hydrated with plenty of electrolytes (i.e., sea salt). The blog articles explain why this works. I have found his advice to be remarkably sound and accurate.
I'll add my prayers for you and your Andrew as well. 🙏
Prayers on the way fren.
Me too.
Your post just made me realize my tinnitus is at its most tolerable level in years. Almost nonexistent.
The only thing I’ve done differently in the past couple weeks is taking Niacin, the type that results in the uncomfortable flush. And, taking three methylated B vitamins. It’s one chewable tablet with methyl B12, methyl folate, and P5P. I decided to take it after reading a comment here about how 60% of people don’t breakdown standard B vitamins very well.
I know you’ll probably get a lot of advice, just wanted to share that some inexpensive vitamins seem to be helping my tinnitus even though it wasn’t my purpose for taking them.
DMSO drops lessen or eliminate tinnitus for some. I've been putting a drop of this mixed with a drop of distilled water into my ear everyday for a couple of weeks. Noticed a tiny change, but mine is mild to begin with.
A Midwestern Doctor writes about tinnitus in this article. It's paid, but you should be able to read some of it, plus I know it includes links to some of his other free DMSO pages.
DMSO is a solvent that easily crosses biological barriers and can carry contaminates with it, so wash area before applying. (No problem with ear wax, however.)
Thank you! I have been applying totally hard to say if it’s working. He is leery about drops.
After what's happened to him I can see why.
Not sure how much you could get from the article I pointed to yesterday.

I’m going to try this thanks
GAW prayers are with you.
Thank you!
I'm so sorry. My husband has tinnitus and he goes through hell. Prayers for your friend.
It’s really so difficult thanks for your prayers Lady Mary
So sorry you are both going through this. I've prayed for you and will again. Please do let us know if he finds any relief. So many people have tinnitus and I know there are many right here on this board who would welcome relief. So please let us know and all the best to you and Andrew.
Thank you so much gobby!
I wouldn't typically recommend benzos, but it may help him calm down during the time you have to wait to see the doc. There's also some evidence that they can help with tinnitus itself

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10672175/
just make sure he doesnt abuse them and hopefully he doesn't have an addictive personality
Furthermore, I also have tinnitus, but not on the level Andrew does. I find that the things that make it worse are excessive alcohol (next day), junk food, lack of sleep and dehydration. So if you can avoid those it may also help
Interesting thank you. I think he does need to get out of fight or flight mode. Hard to tell where he really is with the stress of it.
I'm imagining if my tinnitus was at the level of what you described and can only come to the point of considering it a form of consistant torture. His stress levels are no doubt off the charts, at least 18/7, or however many hours he's awake each day. The cortisol in his bloodstream is destructive to every organ in his body
Yes. He had actually had a blood test performed during this whole thing and his cortisol is very high.
Praying for both of you.
Thank you!
