Temu adds 'import charges' of about 145% after Trump tariffs, more than doubling price of many items
Temu, which sold customers on the ability to "shop like a billionaire" started adding "import charge" to orders in response to Trump's tariffs on China.
Never bought one thing from TEMU. Utter garbage. Much is made by using actual slave labor.
Ditto.
Temu now has lost its single use case: cheap goods. Now they'll go bankrupt.
They are the epitome of Chinese operating.
First, Amazon goes full commie and all their shit went to being "Made in China."
Then, China knocks off the Amazon concept with TEMU to cut Amazon out altogether, just like they copy everything and put businesses under.
Now, Amazon will be screwed because they went full Chyna!
And China will be screwed because they are already full Chyna!
Screw them both!
Bye-bye, thank you for playing hereโs your trophy bankruptcy
Controlled optics..? ๐ค
Temu and sites like it have utterly killed our small business. We do something really niche and were one of the first to start what we're doing nearly 20 years ago. There were two large companies who did similar work but we made our own niche and did something similar but bespoke- ie., made to order and handcrafted instead of off-the-shelf. We grew every year, steadily, until Jan. 2021, when we started to decline due to Biden's policies. I'm not kidding- if you graph our revenue there is a sharp decline starting then. Anyway. Sites like Temu have made it far worse for us because you can get a knock off for just a few bucks there of what we ask $150 for. It's so utterly disheartening and I'm glad that tariffs will at least curb this a bit and give American small businesses a break.
If I can buy something for a couple bucks you sell for $150 you're charging too much . I hope you guys survive and succeed tho, cheers
Hard to compete against slave labor. At some point, people have to do the RIGHT thing, not just the CHEAP thing.
I've tried to steer away from what we do in this post but since you want to judge, it's handmade men's rings in gold, sterling silver and titanium. If you prefer to pay $10 for a mass produced ring that you literally have no guarantee of even what it's made of vs. an average cost of $150 for a handmade band (in silver or titanium- y'all all know how much gold is these days) then that's your choice. Our men's bands are custom made to your specs- you can even design it entirely if you want- with custom inside ring engraving and lifetime support and cleanings, etc. We do not overcharge for what we do... we offer a high quality, specific style of jewelry at an amazing price- we have not raised prices since the pandemic, knowing that people are hurting depsite our own struggles- and we treat folks who buy the cheapest piece just the same as folks who buy the most expensive.
If you didn't dox yourself by giving contact info, I would buy one.
I stand corrected
I would much, much rather purchase something made with American hands (that will last!) and pay accordingly, rather than buy cheap ass shit that breaks right again.
Case in point, we'd buy cheap ass water guns to spray at our dog and kids, and they'd break after one use.
Finally, I wisened up and went to the hardware store, bought some scrap PVC, and a rubber gasket, and made my own! Cost me a few bucks more, but it's never broken and squirts 50 feet further! LOL.
Other companies that mass produce what we make in the US ask far more than we do- not quite double. And we don't mass produce. Bespoke means high quality and made to order. Comparing what we do with Temu's knock offs is like comparing off the rack clothing at WalMart to a hand tailored suit.
There is a difference.
We work hand in hand with our customers- in constant communication- to make what they ask us to make and ensure it's something they'll love. And we provide support if needed even YEARS after purchase. Our customer base IS the working man- we treat everyone we work with with respect whether they're spending $50 or $1000.
My husband was looking for a new hat the other day, and specifically wanted one made in the US by real people. The cost for that hat verses an imported one was double. I'm happy to pay more for the US made hat that's created by a small business. And don't think that those folks are "cucks" or exploiting us.
"Bespoke" goods are unaffordable for the common man and of no better quality than typical factory produce.
Agreed, one is an affordable and sensible option for the common man, the other is an extortionate and predatory offering that shouldn't even exist.
If it was only a difference in double the price then you clearly weren't bargain hunting well enough.
Good for you spending more money than I can afford to to prop up a luxury business who's owner is wealthier than I will be in my life time, I'll stick to saving money rather than giving it to grifters who are likely doing the bare minimum legally required to be able to claim "made in America".
I wouldn't take something for free from Temu.... It's nothing but shit...

America will be better without this Chinese shit
