I'm sure they will make it painful to resist, but I'm not planning to get it. Anyone else holding out, or is this one hopeless?

Not doing it. I can fly with passport.
Real ID has a chip in it. I don't know what bearing that has exactly, I also don't know if Passports have the same. I just don't trust anything with a chip. If it has one, there is likely a nefarious purpose.
So does your credit card.
Fine point.
I didn't have to. I have passport for long time so all I need is the old one.
I thought the REAL ID application requires proof of where you are living.
You can apply for a passport at certain post offices and receive it by mail. You can later move and no obligation to update your address.
So does a driver license.
I have observed that most states require driver's licensees to keep the DMV updated within XX number of days of any change of address.
This is the correct answer.
Thank you.
Question- what documents are needed to get a passport?
Pretty much the same as needed for a Real ID. Documents that prove citizenship.
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯 bull’s-eye my point exactly
Go to the passport office at the post office and ask them, don't ask random internet strangers. A couple of minutes with your favorite search engine will also get you a partial answer.
My old one.
Me too, no need for it if you have a passport.
Correct.
So you don't need a driver's license? Do you just avoid being pulled over, pay the fine, or have a better way out of the whole process?
This is also my plan. I don't know how it helps exactly but I'm not getting the real id. Of course I live in a blue state where you're not allowed to vote if you show ID, so there's that as well
I just flew several days ago. I wouldn't even allow them to do facial recognition. I told them no. I make them hand check my homeopathic.
The guy told me about real ID and I said, "Got it. I will use my passport instead." He didn't need to say anything else.
