I'm sure they will make it painful to resist, but I'm not planning to get it. Anyone else holding out, or is this one hopeless?

That sounds like state law. I'm 71 and have renewed my drivers license many times, several times in different states, and I've never been asked about divorce or marriages. They don't ask whether I'm married or single.
If you are male no biggy. If you are female and your last name is not the same as your birth certificate well….
if a woman has gotten married or divorced and her name has changed they require all sorts of documents. I met a lady in line that was married 65 years and she had to return and bring her marriage certificate along with other documents. I had a passport, and my name matched my drivers license and my SS card so I did not have to show a marriage certificate.
Is that a state requirement? I never had to provide anything additional, but I have had a known traveler ID for well over 10 yrs (I used to travel out of the country frequently and appreciated the shorter customs lines when returning to the US) and I always assumed that’s what got my drivers license updated at my last renewal. I never had to provide anyone with anything more. My license just arrived with the gold circle/white star.
For anyone that is considering getting TSA PreCheck, consider this first. If you are expecting to travel outside the USA anytime in the next 8-10 years get the Global Entry (or Sentri if just driving across the border). It costs more but TSA PreCheck is given for free. Plus you get a nice little card you may be able to use coming back into the US (if they have the machines at that airport). Regardless, it is a valid ID that proves citizenship.
