What did the Dems say last time we complaint about job losses? Learn coding or work at McDonald or something like that?

Jobs eliminated in reorganization. Happens regularly in industry. Aren't these gov jobs meddling in others affairs, or maybe work-from-homers that never came back?. These actually are not very big numbers of people compared to what happens when a large corporation reorganizes. This is happening now for a good reason.

This reveals a Federal employee “culture” where once you are in, you NEVER get let go or fired! You only get moved around between Departments & agencies but you do have to put up with a TWO YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD; which is to my knowledge, unheard of in the private sector.

Commercial generally is competitive and 3-5% annual raise, bonuses, stock options and (for engineers generally 10-30% more pay. But RIFs, layoffs, off-shoring are common

Govt jobs offer 3% step increases every year for 1-3; then 2 years between steps from each step 4-6; then 3 year step durations for step 7-10. Then you are stuck unless you can get a promotion

You won’t get rich. But the stability is the sales pitch

In my experience government salaries are higher than the private sector. Benefits are good & there are retirement plans. One need only look at the Congressional Retirement plan!

Congressional pay scale doesn’t compare with commercial

But looking at GS payables with your typical engineer at GS-12 (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, CompSci, Aerospace etc) commercial pays much better.

But job security is just not good. H1B can replace you at any time

Any government position in my experience is higher than the private sector.

Engineers start at GS-9 then quickly ramp to GS-12 were MOST remain for their careers

I don't blame them for crying. Losing that cushy job where heretofore job security was a certainty hits hard.

And you can't get another job in that area that will support the cost of living in that area. Think of all the basically non-skilled hanger-on-ers that have for years been making a good salary for doing nothing. These people are unemployable pretty much.

Yes, being disabled-retired County worker, I can sympathize with some of the employees getting no-warning broadsided fired/laid off. Being a decent person or a woketard, It would suck if you’ve searched forever, interviewed extensively to get in, and/or spent everything to move to that area to work, and were just getting your feet on the ground; and then getting pink-slipped. I can imagine the flood of frustration.

Though with government jobs, even with a union, you aren’t protected/vested if you haven’t been there 3-5 years (depending on bargaining contract), or are in an at-will management and/or Director type position. If you’re “at-will or non-vested, you should always expect and accept that you can be fired/let go, or laid off at any time.

And I’m pretty sure most of the employees going are at the non-vested and “at will” employment levels. Now also on that, most of these people will get unemployment. And especially in some States (blue mostly) since Covid, benefits have been extended out to 18 months, not just the usual 12 months. So most will get some assistance until they can locate a new job. Some will even be rehired back into other positions. Because once you’re in government work, and don’t have any negative flags in your file, your usually hirable.

But every Presidential and Governor’s Admin should have the right to fire/lay off the prior admin’s legislative and policy work force, to then hire those friendly to their political agenda. It’s only fair in politics to have trusted operatives/employees.

I'm gonna just assume none of these people being fired are good people.

Honestly Trump’s team does not have time to sort the personal details out on every employee they can lay off. And I’ve seen this done when I worked for my county. Usually they lay off or fire all the low ones on the totem pole first; all the non-vested employees, with no union protections since it is super easy, with little reason needed. They then wipe out the new hire mangers/supervisors, and then “offer” (force) early retirements to the oldest vested employees. Usually hearing the term “Golden Handshake”, being provided their full pension, full or partial medical benefits, and paid out any left over vacation/sick time.

Next to come in easy firings are the grant funded employees, regardless of grant funded time. Sometimes they just slash the grant saying the funds are needed elsewhere, and they lay these employees all off.

Last comes the more individualized problematic employees, that are usually shifted to crap high-turn-over departments first, if they’re vested before firing. Or these employees are fired for a clarified “general” reason that is in their personnel file, to attempt to avoid union complications. These are kinda the only employees that are actually scrutinized individually, after all the easy area ones stated above have been removed.

Hey, I worked at the County Road Department during the summers between 8th and 9th and 9th - 10th grades. The road department was located in the building of the old prison farm (P-Farm). The road crew foremans, and big boss were all the same bunch that run the crews when it was a prison lol.

I worked the Bull Gang. The trucks we went on were just like the trucks in Cool Hand Luke with the crew box on the back. Our weed eater was a sling, and a bush hook for vines/limbs. Our work was just like the old chain gangs did, cutting weeds, spreading dirt, filling potholes in the road with hot asphalt.

One summer, I was a flunkie for a motor grader operator. Flunkie was a well know position. My job was was to drive the operator out to the grader, where ever it was parked, follow him up and down the dirt roads, of which most of the country was dirt roads, dig out the end of the cross drains that got cover up when the ditch was pulled, and other stuff. It was hot in Florida even back then, and the air conditioning was the shade of an oak tree.

Looking back, that was a fun time.

Me neither. I enjoyed my job. But until I was vested with the union, I understood I could be let go anytime. I waited 5 years to finally feel comfortable in my job. At 7 years, I watched/witnessed 500 un-vested county hires be “let go” due to budget issues. Later I became a policy analyst and learned all about how things actually work going up the ladder.

The gravy train is over. You fought to continue tippo work at home, despite the “Covid scare” long being over. You held down other jobs and claimed a paycheck for your “government work”. You sat and watched porn all day on government computers. You funneled money to NGOs and whomever you deemed worty. Does this explain why you were laidoff?

Let them cry their alligator tears, they are fake and they may need to be in jail. These are probably unelected beauraucrats who made decisions, they shouldn't have, and cost us either money or time jumping through the hoops (sort of like laws).

They're crying because they will need to actually produce a positive effect for whoever their next employer is. And they won't be able to do whatever the heck they feel like, regardless of what their employer wants.

Cuts, re-orgs, and layoffs always hurt, but for our country, government needs to be drastically downsized for our survival. I was laid off in the early 80's, gas shortage, recession, inflation. I am still here, survived it all by cutting back and doing with out. Government employees appear to have no standards and definitely no accountability. I Hope the housing bubble doesn't burst.

Where were these asshole when the oil industry was shut down and all those people lost jobs?

You all deserve the firing because you were hired without the need for your work. What we reallybsee here is fraud waste and abuse finally leaving the building.

Usually Fed Employees forgo typical yearly cost of living adjustments for stability of government employment. For STEM you generally make significantly LESS than industry. Andt STEM employment is unstable. Engineers get cut for multitudes of reasons. I can understand the unexpected feeling of being laid off. Last thing they expected Now they have a background and experience in an area with ZERO commercial viability
