I think you’re spot on here.

One possibility is that Trump et al talked up the list so as to bring it into the public arena. That was done so when the judges were asked to release their information they would not be able to claim that it "was not in the public interest." It removes that excuse.

I can't foresee the mid-terms being "a thing". I think the Storm/etc will all hit before then. It will be a new world by July 4, 2026.
