Hmmm...I'd advise going to your phone company and asking about it. They generally have some tech heads who know what widgets other companies put on their phone. Go to Walmart and ask those guy in the electronics dept. Can't hurt.
It kept happening so I went to the settings so now YouTube and Internet browser don't have access to the camera. Supposedly it's for Live streams but it kept coming up randomly.
Apparently Youtube is working on using AI to determine if users are under 18. I wouldn't be surprised if they thought they could get away with grabbing a quick snapshot of the user. I only use it on my PC (with no camera or microphone). If they make it mandatory, they can kiss my ass.
Edit to add: If this is really happening, it will be interesting to find out how they get past phone camera permissions. Youtube has no camera permissions on my phone by default, but Google makes the operating system, so...
Yeah, heard of Freetube. Don't really watch anything on my phone. When I have a hankering for PooTube, I view it on my PC with uBlock Origin to nuke any ads. If I were to watch on my phone, I'd still skip an app and just use Firefox (which supports uBlock on Android). Thanks for the recommendation though. Useful for anyone who does watch on their phone/tablet.
t's a new feature to notify you that the camera is being used. In this case it's by Face Unlock. It also does it with the microphone. Hence the ability was added in Android 12 One UI 4 to have quick toggles for mic and camera so you can have a kill switch incase you dont want an app using mic or camera.
Note hoewever that the icon appeared on the homescreen.
If you see it while watching YT videos, you can bet your ass, YT is watching you.
In my view you have a couple of options:
NEVER use a smartphone with a camera + microphone.
ONLY use smartphones with hardware switches. Software switches are crap.
A YT frontend, like freetube, does not cut it. It often is unable to load the video due to: geo restriction, login requirements, and other "safety" measures.
And since ANDROID-STOCK is built around Google PAY i.e. harvesting your data, you may want to reconsider the value of each element you are using and if that is worthy of invasion of your privacy, especailly since many .govs are abusing that.
This leads to 4.
4. USe only smartphones with an alternative to Android OS
That's why you put tape over your camera.
Pro tip: Acetone on the polycarbonate camera lens will fix the problem permanently.
HERE's a thread on Reddit about it. It's okay though. The commenters are actually being helpful instead of Reddit-like.
YT watching YOU through your smart TV?
My phone. I don't watch TV. The phone provides more than enough distraction...

No. But given the censorship crackdown. It might be related to that.
I've wondered...

Damn that's alarming. Thanks for the heads up.
Any suggestions for such a smart phone?
Is it on the entire time? Or do you notice it during ads? Quick fix is to not use their app. Use brave browser it has ad block.
Maybe it's for the mic on notification? It's listening in on you to Taylor the ads for you.
