It's a carrot to incentivize people who don't make enough money to be required to file a tax return to want to do so. Jackson Hewitt is running a little bit of a scam. While people can get many thousands of dollars back, the average earned income tax refund is only $150. So companies like Jackson Hewitt say "Hey, pay me $150 and you could get several thousand back." So the low income people are essentially tricked into filing when they didn't need to.
Things are getting a lot better. I was in a training class at work last week. Someone started talking about some people who died suddenly and other that died of cancer. I said it was the vax loudly and 1/2 the people agreed with me,and no one argued with me.
I am so pissed but I knew something like this what’s happening because the illegals live better than us. They have new cars food stamps housing cash school for free, while we have to struggle for food gas housing electricity etc.

Edit to add: I haven't had a chance to update the post with this info, but the place in San Diego that the state income tax agency sends people to to file tax returns on their behalf is a homeless shelter in San Diego called Dreams for Change that has many allegations of the staff raping and otherwise sexually assaulting the people living in the shelter. American citizens should be reimbursed for the illegals getting our taxpayer dollars. Plus, the taxpayer dollars should be repaid with at least 20% interest. The home countries and the UN would pay the taxpayers.
I always use turbo tax but this year I kept seeing some other website like file your taxes .com or something, so I used them and never got my $300 refund 😒

California is actually paying NGO's to sign people up for tax ID #s and then help them get tax refunds.
