Had a sixth grade teacher who came out of retirement to take our class for 3 or 4 months. Sent the most popular girl in our class to the principal. Saw him walk between two rows of boys' desks and cuff each up side the head. Miracle happened. They all turned into angels. Taught us how to diagram a sentence. From that simple process, I got 100% on every grammar test I took including college. Useful skill.
My daughter once asked me what they did to bad kids when I was growing up. I sadly had to tell her there really weren't any bad kids. I suspect everyone else's parents were like mine. If you got in trouble at school, it would be nothing to the trouble you'd be in when you got home.
It taught the parts of speech, so one could use this knowledge to punctuate and not put adverbs in an adjectives' proper place. May I recommend Strunk and White? 98 pages, including the index. Entertaining read. E.B. White wrote a great American classic and used that talent to write a writing and style guide.
Yes, it does help with the parts of speech. One of my favorite things in English class. Had it in the curriculum I taught in our Christian school. So all my students learned to diagram sentences. They excelled in English and could write and use punctuation properly. It's one of those things gone by the wayside like cursive writing. Replaced with non-sensical subjects that will have no benefit to the students academic learning.
Good for you! My sophomore English teacher required one book report a week. And no one could fake it because she apparently had read every book in the library and remembered details from every one.
A sentence diagram is a pictorial representation of the grammatical structure of a sentence. The term "sentence diagram" is used more when teaching written language, where sentences are diagrammed. The model shows the relations between words and the nature of sentence structure and can be used as a tool to help recognize which potential sentences are actual sentences
I have Encyclopeida sets from 1926 and 1946. The earlier the better! When I was a kid we had a set from like 1909, but my mom let it get away from us in a move. : (
When the Globalists needed the masses for Middle and Upper Management during the Industrial Revolution, they aimed for Maximum success in the Education Systems.
I can attest that when I retired in 2020 after 41 years of teaching mathematics, that NONE of the teachers at that time with less than 20 years experience, could have passed this exam. I could have. I know a few who would not have gotten a single problem correct.
I saw a lot of changes since I started in 1979 which was just after the creation of the Department of Education. Every decision that came out of that department in the 41 years I was in did not benefit any student. Yes, disrespect increased during the later years, and I attributed to the increase of the welfare state in my city. I even had a paper published on trying to educate those trapped in welfare programs. My last year, I taught the grandson of someone I taught my first year. Three generations on welfare really screwed up that family.
I put in an extra 6 years because my wife became handicapped and I wanted to stay on to that Cadillac health plan. Combined with my salary with what the insurance company paid out for her care, I would say I earned, or didn’t spend, half a million each of those years. Once we were Medicare eligible, I retired.
Unfortunately, it’s something she’ll have to live with the rest of her life, but with proper care and nutrition, she can live to a ripe old age by my side. Thanks.🙏

He taught both my parents.

And they never actually said those words. But we knew. Osmosis, I guess. Grin.
I never understood the value of diagraming sentences. What a pain in the ass to learn, but we had to.

Don't have kids if you don't want to teach them yourself imo. Like why is this board so mad at schools. Stop sending your kids to prison
I have come by textbooks that my ancestors and relatives used from back then. THESE BOOKS ARE ALSO digitized on-line!
I prefer the books, and have a couple sets of old encyclopedias also. There is nothing like a hardcover book!
I would not have known to look for these books on line if I didn't already have the hard copies! So how do other people find them?
A couple of examples:
The Elson Readers
The Junior Classics, Popular Edition, ten volumes, (New York: P.F. Collier & Son Corporation, 1938).

It is wonderful to see the the world a hundred years ago!
take care fren!
Most teachers, and I have 5 in the family, THINK we are a Democracy. SMH
The only good thing the left has ever taught was what a pronoun is.

You would have made an Exceptional Teacher. IMHO

Also, I am enjoying my retirement doing what I’m doing here.
Wow
It has nothing to do with deviant sex or sexuality, so its an automatic fail for them
