My pastor reminded us that those who constantly ask God to “help us, pls help us”….gave the charge TO US, to help this world. God is there to aid us of course. When you need rest. When you need advice and guidance, use His word. But that charge is on us. What are we doing? Charlie was working his butt off. What have you(me) done or doing? Do we sit waiting for the next person to support? Or do we actually do what God commanded us to do and go out there and do mission work. Help others. Bring the truth. Be bold. It’s not about which grp to hate. It’s about how can I help them learn what matters. Jesus. The only one that can help them. Ask, how can I help them. The more we slack off and wait on others, the longer and harder this is gonna get. Wanna guarantee your grandchildren will spend an eternity in Hell? Then slack off telling your children the truth about Jesus. Why should your children take it seriously, when you don’t? Which pretty much guarantees your grandchildren have no chance.
I "try" to pray this prayer every day, and sometimes I fall short, but due to your eloquent screed I thought I would share it:
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (Prayer for Peace)
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
I read a great post today, that said "Charlie Kirk did not die, he just changed his address." Charlie is in the arms of our great God, his mission was completed. He helped awaken sinners like me, and as long as I live, he will be remembered.
I started going back to "Sunday School" and church with my brother, who invited me. Interestingly, the one conducting the class discussions does include a portion where he brings in headlines of news stories some may not have read. He literally has what you suggested. But, he's a retired cop, teaching Sunday School, not the pastor.
My pastor stuck to the scheduled sermon on Hebrews but told us it would be condensed so that he could address this past week's events. The service ran over and no one fussed.
I was saddened to see that there were only the weekly regulars in church. I was hoping the ones who watch online would come in today.
Amen! My church spoke up and gave Charlie honor. Most pastors I know and online have. I checked out Furtick (I know ,I know but I have a soft spot because when I was a baby in the saving faith of Jesus 7 years ago he spoke feel goods that helped with my transition out of life long catholic church) and it's the same lukewarm motivational speech. We turned it off. I saw comments blowing up on his IG calling him out though. People especially Christians are more awake than ever.
OK. Maybe a sermon on Exodus 20 (particularly verses 13)?
What AI says...
The Bible presents a multifaceted view of reverence for life, rooted in humanity being created in God's image (Genesis 1:27), which imparts inherent dignity and value to every person. This divine creation grounds the command "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13), underscoring that only God has the authority to give and take life. Reverence for life extends to caring for one's own body as a "temple of the Holy Spirit" for believers (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) and treating all of God's creation with respect, not to be squandered, misused, or treated with indifference.
Reverence for Life's Origin and Value
Created in God's Image:
Human life holds a sacred dignity because people are made in the image of God.
A Divine Gift:
Life is a precious gift from God, and attempting to take it without divine authority is a violation of its sanctity.
The "Do Not Murder" Commandment
Exodus 20:13:
This commandment is understood as a protective "fence" around human life, emphasizing its sacredness.
Divine Authority:
Murder is the ultimate attack on human sanctity and should be met with severe consequences, as God reserves the right to end life.
Caring for the Human Body
The Body as a Temple:
For believers, their physical bodies are considered the "temple" or dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
Nourish and Protect:
Believers are called to care for, nourish, and protect their bodies, as God speaks highly of reverence for His sanctuary.
Respect for All Life
God's Creation:
Reverence for life extends beyond human beings to respect for all that God has created.
Not Our Own:
Acknowledging that "you are not your own" (1 Corinthians 6:19) means that life should not be wasted, squandered, or misused.
Living a Life of Reverence
Holiness:
Reverence for life involves a commitment to holiness and moral purity in daily actions and decisions.
Obedience and Awe:
It is a lifestyle of obedience and awe in the face of God's majesty and holiness, shaping one's relationship with God and others.
All these people are saying churches have to preach about Charlie Kirk and be all outraged over it. Lots of normal hardly heard about the shooting. Like everyone at Saturday soccer half didn't even know. Why does our politics have to be in every church service in america?

" He received his promotion".

A pastor should have a Bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other

Good for you! Intriguing, though. I like to see when churches talk about current events and how to live as a christian in real world situations

"People especially Christians are more awake than ever."
...no more "preacher-ettes"...
...preaching "sermonettes"...
...to "Christian-ettes"...
...mild mannered preachers telling a mild mannered congregation to be more mild mannered...
...hold the line Pilgrim...
AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!
AMEN!
Yikes now the church has to preach what my politics thinks or else it's not preaching right. Seems like a bad precedent.

...come again...
All these people are saying churches have to preach about Charlie Kirk and be all outraged over it. Lots of normal hardly heard about the shooting. Like everyone at Saturday soccer half didn't even know. Why does our politics have to be in every church service in america?
Exactly, they focus on politics/Ukraine and not helping the congregation, they want only money.
" Like everyone at Saturday soccer half didn't even know. "
...howls...
"Why does our politics have to be in every church service in America?"
...not all, just the ones that get preached on Sundays.after an assassination...
