There are plenty of reason why him being in witness protection is doubtful. I don’t feel like typing it all out, but just the thought of him leaving his wife and kids to fake his death to me just doesn’t make sense. What purpose would that really serve? I've met a few spies, or at least I think I have, mostly figuring it out after the fact. Their job, full time, is to play a role. It becomes second nature.
