Most states only charge registration fee on vehicles. Florida and New York do not charge a property tax, just fees.
Connecticut does, at the property mill rate for the town in which the vehicle is registered, but with some rate cap so places with worthless properties and high mill rates are less insane, but you're still paying >$1000/yr tax to dare have a reasonably nice car.
So does Commiefornia. If you own a business they not only tax your building with property tax, but also they tax all your furnishings, equipment, inventory, etc.
I was under the impression most states do that. Also for clarification, and don't get me wrong here I'm not defending a tax, but it's not like Virginia tries to perpetually collect taxes on what you own. After a certain point (so many years of ownership) they start valuing the stuff you own as literally being worthless (Worth $0) and so don't charge you any tax on it. I've got a couple of uncles who live in virginia and from what they tell me, it's been many years since they had to pay any of these taxes because the state values their trucks and trailers as being worthless based on their age
We have this in WV. Personal Property Tax. Didn't have it in Ohio when we lived there.
In WV, it's relatively reasonable. TBH, filling out the damn forms is the biggest PITA. But I could see how people with a lot of new stuff could find it more annoying than we do.
All property taxes are immoral and were authored in the communist manifesto.
Oh yes. I know that. Actually, all tax are illegal, right?
I thought every state did that, Alabama certainly does.
We don't have a tax bill for that every year? Not in WA or OR for our vehicles.

CT is the same shit. Paying for the same stuff, over and over again. Unconstitutional!!!
Wow. Even WA and OR, I did not have to do that.
Indiana does not
Neither is AR
Been the law forever. And they have $30 toll roads and twice a year car inspections.
Good thing I did not choose to go there.

Oh WHAT? No wonder I don't live there no more.
Missouri does that with its property taxes. Nothing new.
Property tax is every year. I know that much.

Rather not pay it up hey, I don't need to.

I think it needs to go away.
