The US Mint is in the process of stopping production of pennies. I think '82 and earlier are solid copper which may be worth a save for your kids' kids :)
You can get 500% return on investment by getting pennies from a bank, taking the pre 82 out, and taking the junk ones back for a new batch. They won't like you but it's a bank, so screw them. You won't get rich but I'll take a 5X ROI any time.
You could make a hopper to feed the pennies onto a conveyor belt with a channel divider. 3 Lanes 1 is for dirty pennies that can't be read, another is for pennies that could be read and were after '82 and a catch bin for '82 or older. Wouldn't be the toughest build and probably able to go through a 5 gallon bucket in a day.
Oh hell no it doesn't notify you. They keep the valuable ones for themselves. That's they only way these machines can make any money, other than the 20% or whatever they are charging now.
Too many people after Grandpa dies, they take his massive change collection to a coinstar machine and sit and watch as those $10 coins are paid out at $0.25 each. Sad.
Yeah, it's rich coming from companies like Walmart wanting me to donate to some scam. I'll never donate to any charity again, more than likely. I would rather donate to people I know that are struggling.
Older coins are worth much more in raw ore than their face value. The older the coin, the more it is worth. IE '64 and older quarters are made of silver. MOST have already been taken out of circulation but I do occasionally find them. They're worth like $10 each right now. I have tons of them. Same story for cents, dimes, nickels, etc.
Too bad the shops always round up. I’ll wait for the cashier to find my penny. Change the price of the item if you don’t want to deal wi the giving change.
I have also noticed this trend with automatic self check machines. I’ll put in a bill and all my change comes out except one of the pennies. Then it clicks and whirls inside as if searching for it. After a bit, more than enough time to to take the receipt and walk out, our spits a penny. Like it’s watching and trying to keep it.
Its not bullshit. When is the last time you culled a penny from your pocket to make exact change? I have thousands of pennies at my hous in jars that ive collected fornyears because i just never ise them. I culled out about 7 pounds of copper pennies amd have around 32 lbs of rhe zinc useless pennies. We ahve a number of business here that dont have any pennies. They round down to the nearest nickel.

"500%" return on pennies? We need time as a perspective. Give us hours per roll of pennies.

This is what coinstar machines do. The whole point they exist is to scoop out the older valuable coins
They keep them for the company? or it notifies you like hey this ones valuable?

That would almost be worh melting them down into copper ingots, but I'm no forging expert
I agree
Ig what I meant by my post was, it is not a natural shortage. This is being forced
Better to get them some pre-1965 quarters
If you can find'em.
Pay with pennies
It’s because people are using them as floor coverings
People that have no taste.
You haven't seen some of the artwork that has been done. I was thinking of using them for my bath rooms counter.
Saw a bar with an epoxy floor covered in pennies.

Ill sell them for 2 cents each. Tjeyll still save money because legally stores can only round down. Tjeyll break even
That is still also going on! Fuck that evil
This happened before.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

I am stockpiling older coins and all because this is the perfect introduction to CBDC, even though it is not an active topic rn
There's a reason the Founding Fathers gave Congress the authority to coin money, and not to print it.
It's all I have.
...no problem...
...round down to the nearest nickel..

...snatch a copper off of each transaction...
...just for fun let's say McD's does a million transactions daily....
...$10,000 easy money...
In most of Eurozone Europe cash has not exact change. 1 Euro coins do exist but are uncommon.

It says that the 1909-1982 Cent (95% copper) is worth 318.11% of it's face value in terms of metal price.
