Honestly I think the amount of property tax should be calculated (in a traditional american small town) by:
Length of road frontage (so size of lot)
Use of sewer/water
Number of adults/children on the property
Instead of based on the improvements/'assesed value' of the property, which discourages investment in the property. You could make a mansion on the property but you'd be taxed the same as somebody with the same number of kids living in a shack down the street on the same size lot, because you're both using the city services the same (road, sewer, infrastructure, etc). But the city should not be able to foreclose on you for nonpayment of taxes, however they could make a strike against your credit like other institutions.
Nope. Land should not be taxed period. Find another way to build 40 neighborhood parks at 7 million each. My city wasted 7 mil on another park tjat no one even uses.
Here in NY, and probably everywhere, the Jehovah's Witnesses claim all members are employees of the church, so they all live in houses/apartment/condos/etc. that are considered church property, and therefore, no property tax. It results in a significant increase in the property taxes for everyone else living in the area where these massive JW conclaves are.
Here in NY, I once did a little analysis of the sales tax on vehicles and determined that if a person purchases a new car, pays the sales tax on it, and then sells it a year later, and that person pays the sales tax, and so on for seven years, at the end of those seven years, the total sales tax paid during those seven transactions is about equal to the value of the vehicle at the end of seven years.
I am an atheist and I approve of this message.
Beyond that, the patrons of the church are already paying taxes on their own properties. Taxing the church is taxing the patrons twice.
yup
Name another product we buy that we have to pay unrealized capital gains taxes on for as long as we have it
Maybe not “buy” but earn… your money, if “reported properly” is always taxed, interest… etc.,.

Just a thought but the current system sucks ass.

Now now I'm sure that park is planned for the homeless people not for the citizens! Silly taxpayer.
I kid you not they raised my assesment for mowing the lawn. The property was vacant and in need of serious help.
Crazy. They send you a ticket for not mowing it, but raise your taxes when you do!
Had me in the first half
The parishioners who give, are giving from money that has already been taxed.
Indeed

Good for them. Wish the methodist had figured that.out but the decided to sell out and make government their god.

Property taxes mean you can never own your own land.
I want to see a Constitutional Amendment clearly stating that only Citizens can own property.
Corporations aren't citizens, and the myth of the "corporate person" needs to die.
