I remember being a young Catholic boy and being told that on all soul’s day you could spring people out of purgatory by praying 8 Hail Marys and 8 Our Fathers.
As an 8 year old I couldn’t understand why everyone in the church wasn’t on their knees praying to empty purgatory.
Once I left the Catholic and read the Bible for myself, I realized there is only heaven or hell, and purgatory was an invention of the Catholic Church.
In the septuagint, which was the Bible that Paul used and the Bible that Jesus quoted from several times it mentions prayers for the dead..
There are various Bible verses that support this also.
1 Corinthians 3:11–15
Matthew 12:32
Revelation 21:27
Hebrews 12:14
1 Peter 1:6–7
2 Timothy 1:16–18
Matthew 5:25–26
1 Corinthians 15:29
Philippians 2:12
There are numerous writings from the second to 5th century that shows this was was the common belief of the early Christians.
I mean it's possible that you're modern interpretation of the Bible are superior to that of the early Christians, but there's really no way to know until we're dead.
The Septuagint was a translation of the Old Testament and not the New Testament. Besides that,
1 Corinthians 3:11–15
Matthew 12:32
Revelation 21:27
Hebrews 12:14
1 Peter 1:6–7
2 Timothy 1:16–18
Matthew 5:25–26
Philippians 2:12
Nothing in these verses say anything about praying for the dead. I do not know what bible you are reading from.
1 Corinthians 15:29 speaks of Baptizing for the dead which was a custom in Corinth and was used in an argument for the resurrection. I do not see it practiced anywhere else in scripture.

Thanks Fren, also 2 Maccabees 12:46: It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.

SO MUCH THIS.
Catholicism is a bastardization of Biblibal teaching.
It is a corrupt religion, based on lies.
They worship idols.
And like clockwork the Catholic hater comes out.
This is so 16th century to hate papists.
You are doing the devil’s work, dividing Christians. Or maybe you aren’t even one….Your words certainly don’t sound Christian.
Why don’t you proselytize in non Christian countries? Maybe even Muslim countries? If you want to spread Christ’s message.
i've been to a Catholic church. very weird, many rituals.
not much Bible AT ALL, but idol worship galore.
confession is ridiculous, and not Bible based.
neither is purgatory.
my pastor preaches from the Bible. that is the lesson. all from, and about the Bible.
NOTHING like catholics.
i've plenty of issues with other 'christian' denominations, episcopal, 7th day, nazarene, METHODists, etc.
all are twisted versions of Christianity, sculpted to ahere to what some people THINK it should be, instead of what God's word says.
I will pray for you so you won’t have so much hate .
