My grandfather said he didn't agree with WW2 while he was fighting in it. He lost half his hand to a bayonet while there. He said he didn't want to kill people he agreed with but orders were orders. He died hating the government of the US.
About a year or two ago I realized why they commemorated WWII with poppies in the UK.
Just like the 1800’s Wars in China, and the U.S. in Afghanistan recently, the demons were fighting to take control of fucking opium production.
The poppy is them bragging about it to our faces, even getting us to celebrate it, and we’re so dense we don’t even realize it.
These fiends have to be completely laid low.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
The standard explanation is that the location of the WW1 front was a region of Belgium/France where the common poppy is endemic (Papaver rhoeas) also called Flanders poppy after the location. Its a hairy thin stemmed poppy with low green leaves, typically red.
The Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) is the one cultivated for seed or opium and originates in more Mediterranean climates, although can grow anywhere really. It has a much larger seed head, dusty looking pale green leaves that grow higher on the stem, and stem is smooth and thicker. Can be various colours.
But yes all wars are for purposes the soldiers themselves rarely benefit from.
Note that I do leave my track record of misses up as well, at least. (except if it’s misleading. I did delete a few of those to avoid spreading misinfo. This one is actually informative as a whole, imo.)
It happens, kek. “Details”, bah!
That so many wars were fought over poppy fields is still a point, WWI just wasn’t apparently one of them. Vietnam, among other things (oil), may have been one as well though.
Wait.... <shock!> are you telling us... you're not, you're not..... perfect!??
<halt feigned shock>
We have to engage to learn, right? No one knows everything. And as far as experts go, in my book, you may be an amateur expert, but your the best expert amateur expert I know.
Carry on.
Of course, your comments re: wars and drugs, anyone reading this post knows that its a valid point.
PS. side reflection: A lot of folks living in countries for who WW1 was a key, critical formative experience (i.e US, UK, maybe France, Germany) are exposed to the ww1 poppy thing as a part of growing up, so general knowledge on the topic is to be expected.
side note: there's a brilliant comedic series from Britain that provides a very funny, nuanced perspective on the British ww1 experience, aka life in the trenches. The whole series (season 4) is 6 episodes, but you can see a selected smattering here. "Black Adder Goes Forth"
Brilliant stuff, and a core role played by the actor known as a dramatic actor in the US in 'House'.
The Betrayal by the Government over the last Decades is High Treason. Selling off crown assets.. flooding with mooches and hostiles. An unimaginable Evil.
Drivers license, fishing license, hunting license, business license, occupancy permit, park permit, all with fees. We have been in a psychological gulag. I say anyone who wants to preserve this shit is insane. Regulated to death. Freedom means i dont ever ask have to ask permission to do that stuff. The corporate givernment must perish. Yes i meant to say giverment.
I think both sides had bad motives, but one could well argue that we chose the more evil side in WW1 , and that if Wilson hadn't been such a graceless person we would not have had WW2, Evidence follows:

And what was Vietnam?
More of the same.

Ah, good to know.
Literally, “bringing sleep”.
Yeah, I believe the poppy thing predates WW2. Aussies still use poppies on armistice day, commemorating WW1 in France.
So, they commemorate ww2 with poppies because the commemorate ww1 with poppies. Hidden meaning? I don't know.

The poem is about WWI not WWII.
Same difference to the point, but noted.
That it’s a different type of poppy that isn’t used to make opium is very notable, though. I’d thought all poppies were used for that.
The Germans of 1940 would have done a much better job, they would not have given it up to the muslem rape gangs....
Heartbreaking.
Absolutely.
Was he arrested immediately after the broadcast?

Wow, sad that this hero will now live out his days in hate speech prison.

Finally waking up.
Give them hell, Grandfather! 👍❤️🏴
