After four years of house prices doubling (and in some areas, tripling) many young people feel priced out of the American Dream of homeownership. A welfare fraud scandal in Minnesota reveals that large numbers of new arrivals aren't assimilating and are funneling our tax dollars to literal terrorist groups. An innocent woman was set on fire in Chicago as the mayor resists federal law enforcement resources to bring peace to one of our great cities. The Obamacare insurance system is buckling under its own weight. And the country is $38 trillion in debt.
Our administration is working hard on addressing all of these problems.
But you know what really fires up the beltway GOP? Not any of the above. Instead, the political class is really angry that the Trump administration may finally bring a four year conflict in Eastern Europe to a close.
I'm not even talking about the substance of their views. Much of what these people have said about the Ukraine war has been proven wrong, but whatever. We can agree to disagree.
But the level of passion over this one issue when your own country has serious problems is bonkers.
It disgusts me. Show some passion for your own country.
many young people feel priced out of the American Dream of homeownership
Not "many"....actually "EVERY" young person. The under 25 crowd that I know, including my nieces and nephews and their social circles, feel absolutely hopeless about home ownership. They all have average or slightly above average jobs, paying decent. But wage inflation is nowhere near matching housing inflation.
Construction costs per square foot have been relatively stable. Land costs have gone up and to some extent the size of the houses in terms of square feet. But by far the biggest impact that correlates directly with the big rise is the mass immigration into the country. Legal and illegal. Also a big trend that I have seen is where normal single family homes are occupied by several families paying rent. Another big trend has been section 8 people being put into single family homes in the suburbs. Which pisses me off greatly.
How to fix it. Get rid of the foreigners, get section 8 people out of single family homes and townhomes in the suburbs, open up more land for building, reduce or eliminate property taxes and reduce interest rates. When it comes down to it, it’s all about the mortgage payment compared to your income.
Has it? In my area i just built and after covid its insane how expensive materials are. I cannot build remotely close to what i was quoted precovid.
Rates need to come back and something needs to be done about non primary residence buyers. Im beyond happy my house is up 120% since i bought it but no way anyone who isn't wealthy can afford the mortgage with current rates.
Also big issue is your average house is larger. No one is building a starter house anymore. And if they are built they are built to rent to people and renting is the # place for illegals.
It would be a non free market move but limiting housing for families to own and in order to rent out there needs a ton more rules on who can own and who can do it. Plus airbnb as contributed to killing affordable housing in cities (but imo fuck cities get a nice house in a nice area, get a yard etc.)
The US needs to at least DOUBLE their house building rates like now. If not 3x it. But we live in a free capitalistic market and these businesses are doing what makes them money regardless of how it effects the housing market.
Problem is the towns or fire marshalls are too scared of being called racists if they kick 15 people livinging illegally in a chopped up house. I see houses with 2-3 meters, 6 cars and nothing happens. They will come down on American seniors for having an illegal apt b/c they wont be called racists.
Want to know why people keep coming across our borders? Because we keep giving them money for food, housing, phones, etc... They don't live this great in their own country. Us citizens are paying for our own invasion.
The concept of "treat everyone fairly and equally" is part of Western civilization. The parable Jesus told of the Good Samaritan was meant to teach this idea.
You will not find this outlook in other religions or political systems.
Virtually everywhere else, it is perfectly normal and expected to treat outsiders any way you like. You can cheat them, lie to them, steal from them, use them, buy them, sell them, and even kill them without consequence.
As long as you treat your own immediate family well, and your own small tribe well, using outsiders is just the way life is. It's how you survive and, sometimes, grow rich.
That's why it's completely normal and acceptable to people like this to take everything they can get from outsider, in any way they can. They honestly don't see anything wrong with it.
But those in the West do not understand this. They think everybody is really just like we are and follows all the same rules.
They don't. Not even close. Europe and the USA are both getting a hideous lesson in reality with this.
I believe that the "$38 trillion in debt" is deceptive. I don't think it includes the giant shortfall for already paid for and promised Social Security and Medicare. The situation's way WORSE.
Very well said! $38,000,000,000,000 in debt!!! And the Dems/Rinos are pissed about bringing peace to Eastern Europe. If you examine what the opposition does, it’s always illogical and it’s annoying because we see these moves over and over again. They are distracting all from the work (aka destruction at home) they are doing. It really is infuriating when you see the gameplay.
A lot of what is killing home ownership too is that people and companies who can afford a second, third or fourth home are snatching them up and renting them out as air b&b's. The market for old homes is gone. Also, people with deep pockets snatch up old houses to fix and flip for unaffordable amounts. If you are a first time home buyer, you can't afford to go toe to toe with these seasoned, deeper pocket people and companies.
We are rural, and I can count off the top of my head 5 short term rental properties just within a few rural blocks of me. One, Grandma died and the Granddaughter rents it as an air b&b now, three more were bought for the sole purpose of renting out short term rentals, and the other the family moved to a bigger home and is now renting out short term their old house. People rent them to get "away to the hills" and then let their dogs poo in our yard, drive like crazy people in their rented jeeps around our neighborhood, throw parties because they think they are in the middle of nowhere (even though we can all hear it, echoing off the valley walls), let their kids ride their mini bikes or electric bikes on our dirt roads where cars are... they see an open field and let their kids run, or dogs poo, or pick flowers, litter, or whatever they want. They have no idea those fields are private property.
We all know it's private property, but we've never had to worry about people because the only people up here were owners. Now that the short term rental money machine is on our back porch, and so is the short term idiots.
Anyhow, off my rant and back to my original topic... you can't compete with these deep pockets when you are in your 20's. They will always outbid you because they will make their money back off these people.
What I did back in '87, I bought an acre and a tiny cabin that already had an artesian well, and was wired. I bought an additional 4 acres 2 years after that, that adjoined my land. 10 years of working with disabled people, doing respite for others on weekends, and working after hours, I bought a manufactured double wide, well built, had a full walk in basement built, plopped that home over it, and here I am, almost all paid off. My adult son lives with me, there is plenty of room. He will get all this when I am gone. I am not saying we are not in a housing crisis, but I will say that an awful lot of people are not willing to start small and from scratch and build up as time goes by. My house is still in good condition, and I had a couple of contractors and my brother in law who also built houses take a look at it. They were impressed at how solid and over built the basic bones were. They build solid because these buildings have to stand up being transported from one state to the other, It is an option, but a lot of 30 year olds want the best right away, and I am not from that generation. Now they tell me my land and house are worth 300k on the market (I have a view) . Not selling, dying here. I could never have what I have now for that amount of money, and I certainly would not have the land to sustain on.
She's a Brahman and by extension so is he. It's like how Trump's family is mostly Jewish. You have to keep up with population growth coming from anywhere but the West.
Christianity vs Judaism was a cool subplot a thousand year ago, but now we will both be in the minority in just 100 years. Our grandkids won't distinguish. Trump knew this when he married his daughter off to Kushner.

Middle age people like myself as well. I make 6 figures and cant afford a home. My neighborhood is not the best either.

Agreed 💯 dude!
The prices on lumber are outrageous though. Can't we build homes people will buy out of something else?
You know homes were never affordable to minimum wage earners. Not for as long as i lived have they been.
Want to know why people keep coming across our borders? Because we keep giving them money for food, housing, phones, etc... They don't live this great in their own country. Us citizens are paying for our own invasion.
They're passionate about the endless grift schemes centered around Ukraine and defense contractors profiting.

Nice reading of a speech written by a professional speech writer, JD “H1B” Vance.
I love the way he speaks. Pretty damn good speaker.
I don’t trust anybody except DJT but this one was good he forgot to mention our taxpayer’s money going to the joos.
America's first Indian president. I don't mean this in a negative way. Its inevitable. Population growth is favoring Chinese, Indians, and Africans.
The Russian/Ukrainian war will be the last one where two European countries argue over territory.
