This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.

Has Anyone Developed Life Skills Their Parents Didn't Teach Them and What Tips Do You Have on How to Do So?
This year someone I know was not doing well so I was trying to help them with something yet I wasn't really taught how to do this thing well myself.
Take for an example, maybe this person couldn't cook for themselves and I was tasked with cooking for them, although I hadn't been taught how to cook and have taught myself to do so by reading online and watching videos and through trial and error.
So I only have so much confidence with the skill I developed myself and the system I set up for myself, while this person's system was different than mine (say they were allergic to peanuts, so I would have needed to always be on the lookout for peanuts being secretly added to things, which I wouldn't have even thought about in my own system of cooking).
So I guess it's a question to me of how to 1. develop better life skills, 2. how to work other people's systems if you aren't aware of all of what their needs are and 3. how to identify and close gaps in your "life skills" skillset.
Any input would be appreciated
My parents taught me little. I learned from country people when I left the city. I rented from working class people who homesteaded for the most part, and did not have money for a lot of things. My parents were middle class and in the suburban parts of Queens. My skills are around self medical care and herbs, organic farming (books, trial and error) Other things learned was by observation and living around working people. Mostly home maintenance, large animal care, how to buy a used car, what to look for, cooking came from hanging around with women who cooked and working as a prep cook, preparing meals for people who like good food and like to eat, Refusing modern conveniences out of frugality and stubborness (dish washers, dryers, micro waves, thermostat heating, ) decorating my own home, painting, curtains, keeping things clean. I was trained as a nursing assistant, psych attendant, learned how to take vital signs, keen eye for observation of a persons health, etc.
Ring of fire has been heating up, a big Quake off of Japans northern coast, one in Alaska the other day, and almost constant activity in Russias northwest peninsula. Little ones around San Fransisco, this is happening as the sun is very active with flares and coronal mass ejections. Many folks who study these things think the flares and quakes are related. They say look at the bigger picture, well, the bigger picture seems to be shaking and flaring it up.

Frens, I was away for the weekend and inactive on this board. My only time on was for about half an hour Sunday afternoon when I glanced at the stickied headlines. I saw one stickied post in which President Trump sent a 33 page message to the citizens of this nation. I read the 2 page introduction above the President’s signature and the table of contents. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to read more nor send it out to my colleagues. This morning, I spent 20 minutes searching for it and I can’t find it. The search feature has not been helpful. I do want to read this and if it’s as important as I gleaned from the table of contents, I would like to email it out to my circle of friends and post on other social media. If anyone can find a link, I would appreciate it.
