December 17, President Trump has a nationwide speech and talked about numerous various topics. To me it sounded a lot like one of his stump speeches. Ho, hum. So I began wondering why he would deliver such a bland topic speech. Then it hit me.....Dec 17. So i jumped over to the Q posts and read through all posts made on Dec 17. One stood out...#3702. In essence Q asked a question "What can the Senate do while conducting a treason trial...nothing". It means that while a treason trial is being litigated no other Senate business can be conducted. That means if several trials are lined up the Senate might not be conducting work for a long while.
So if the legislature is in a spot where it cannot pass laws what relief does a President have to get his laws passed? Can he conduct war if the Congress cannot vote on it? If President Trump decides to go to war and they are in the middle of a treason trial what is he to do?
I am not a legal beagle so Im just tossing this idea out there for smarter people to flesh out the specifics. It is intriguing to know that after the first of the year several treason cases could be handed to the Senate for them to litigate and while in the middle of those cases they cannot conduct regular business. That might give the President the authority to conduct his own agenda and somehow bypass the Congress.
What say you guys?
Should take about 17 seconds.
I've got a sneaky suspicion you only replied to the title and you didn't read the entire post. ;)
No I read the post. Sort of a musing trying to see what others think. I replied to the title.
Treason, mRNA…. Don’t know what’s going on if they want the pitchforks out and people demand change. Or let the corruption collapse in on itself which is even better than tribunals. Trump is a builder. I see him setting foundations for a lasting change. This is bigger than we think. His first book he talked about building foundations, concrete and so on. A building can only go as high as the foundation is strong. This is boring and takes time. This is where people cut corners. He doesn’t. He monitored foundations and framing carefully. Concrete mixing and quality. Materials. Down to the room light switch plates. He told Vance and Rubio to get new shoes. He notices everything.
I think it depends. If you are Republican up for treason then you are right: 17 seconds, but if you are a Democrat then I think 17 years is closer!
If the Senate is doing a trial for treason, that means the Senate is in session. There is no Senate rule that says they can't do other things too, but for optics the reason would monopolize the spectacle. So, no recess is created.
But regular federal courts can try people for treason.
Regardless, I think we're heading towards martial law and military trials.
I asked Grok your questions and to sum up the response without a giant wall of text, the answer was if a member of the senate was under investigation or in the middle of litigating a trial for treason, the senate would continue to operate like normal.
So I asked Grok what if every member of the Senate was being tried for treason? Basically same answer, the senate does not stop operations.
Then I asked, is there a scenario where the Senate would stop operations. Yes, there are several.
Without a quorum, the Senate cannot vote or debate legislation—it can only adjourn from day to day or take steps to achieve a quorum.
Scenarios Where This Could Happen:
Deliberate Absences (Quorum Busting): Senators might intentionally absent themselves to block action, a tactic historically used in filibusters or protests.
Mass Absences Due to External Factors: This could include arrests, illnesses, resignations, expulsions, or deaths reducing attendance below 51.
In a hypothetical like widespread treason investigations (as discussed in prior messages), if many Senators were detained or recused, it could erode the quorum, leading to a temporary stop until vacancies are filled via state appointments (17th Amendment).
Scenarios: A mass treason conviction/expulsion (as hypothesized) or war could vacate seats, but appointments would restore quorum. The Constitution doesn't allow permanent stops; the system is designed for resilience.
I liked the speech! I didn't find it pedestrian or ho-hum at all. He laid out all his administration's accomplishments, which many idiots don't know about. Hopefully they were listening or at least hear some sound bites. Sure, I would have preferred if he had said there were some high level arrests that had been made, or that all of little Somalia had been deported, but he'll get there.
What you describe is a sticky legal situation. However if they were smart they would have the Senate stack a bunch of bills they have voted on so if they do have to conduct treason trials they can have the House pass the already approved Senate bills that won't need any reconciliation. Otherwise the House is stacking up bills for the Senate. I do t see Trump starting a full on war on another country without doing it 100% to the letter of the Constitution.
