Seen from this perspective, one can easily see how defensive positions in Greenland and Alaska could protect against ICBMs from the Russian mainland. As to their submarine missiles, that's another matter.
I don't believe it's for defence from Russia, I believe it's more for defence from NATO (Europe).
Same here. It was the U.S. government that invaded Ukraine, not Russia. Russia seems to be minding its own business, including its own defense.

That would allow US to control the Bering Strait AND both Straits of Greenland, plus put monitoring hardware on the Northern coast of Greenland & deploy patrols into the region.
