‘This is misery for us:’ New home construction stalls after immigration crackdown in Minnesota | CNN Business
Roofers are turning down jobs. Painters are locking themselves inside the homes they’re finishing. Concrete crews have monthslong waiting lists.
MY MY MY!
I know people who had decent paying jobs in construction. Who were let go for cheaper "immigrant" labor. [One finally find a job selling mattresses, he is good at it. But what he and his family went through!!]
BUT MY MY MY!! Let the chickens come home to roost for the construction firms that did this to the skilled trades! Guess what? They didn't lower the price of the homes built! Once one of them hired illegals, others followed suit to remain "competitive."
FIE upon them FIE! Last time we had our roof redone, we told the contractor, no illegal labor! Yet none of them spoke English but the supervisor! And they threw roofing nails on the driveway so we got flat tires. How does one even hire legal labor anymore?!?
Go into the hood and knock on Shinequa's door and beg her to come and work as a roofing laborer. She will have to find daycare for her nine kids and you will have to provide her with PPE that can carry her 400 pounds. Oh, dont be alarmed when she gets on your roof and it begins to deflect. That's just the 1/4" OSB the original contractor used to shave a few bucks off the roofing contract.
When people who were on WIC and SNAP finally figure out that they have to go to work to feed themselves the labor shortage will end. We are only in the beginning phase of that plan. It will get interesting.
It will be a long time before we get there
Hate to tell you this but as long as she has a child under 14, she doesn't have to work at all. She is exempt from all work requirements.
For now.
TIL: FIE
OH isn't it the best word when it is needed??
Yes ma’am!!! as a continuous learner. I love to see a new word that I have no clue what it means. Thank you.
to get any kind of good help, you have to pay out the ass .
Let's just say a fair competitive wage??
We have a serious labor and material issue. With everything!
Don't even think the good Amish people don't do this either. A very unskilled driver showed up with a crew to do our roof and siding. The Amish guys weren't bad at their job. More on that later. But the foreigner couldn't speak any English at all. They used phone translator apps. On a side note here, just because they're Amish, it doesn't automatically garuntee good work. Some live on that reputation and slap shit together. You get duped by the mystic of Amish quality. They're just like any other contractor anymore, some good some bad. The foreigner was stepping on new siding, ripping the old off the windows and breaking plastic trim around them. I had $800.00 taken off the bill for damaged windows.
Florida hit the skids too in that area. Ron DeSantis got our technical trade schools to add contracting, because we have houses to be built and no one to build them. He said it's an 18-month program and people will be started at $100,000 a year. 💥 You see what happened is the breakdown of the family and no fathers being around. There hasn't been anyone to put a hammer in the hand of a child to build a dog house, let alone go on building and take a state contractors test. My brother did that and that's how it used to be!
Boys/men today only know how to use their thumbs!
So maybe your state can follow suit. This is not just a problem in Minneapolis. Florida put this in place before ice raids, stopping ID and making a legals just pass through nothing there for them. They also just did a 10,000 illegal alien roundup. 🇺🇲🇺🇲
Just get all the smallies and illegals to deport (one way or the other), and they'll be no need for new home construction there....
Amen!
Erm
What?
That implies that they have too much work?
Mind you concrete doesn't set very well in freezing conditions, I think
[AI] (below or 32 degrees) is risky, as water inside the mix can freeze, expand, and cause up to a 50% loss in 28-day strength. The hydration process slows drastically below freezing, requiring measures like using heated water, blankets, or acceleration admixtures to prevent structural damage, surface scaling, and long-term durability issues
The contractor ( English speaking boss dude) makes the deal for say 30k. He then pays his guys 10-12 an hour saving himself 38-40 per hour over a legit carpenter, electrician, concrete company. If he has to pay more, he will. He just won’t get to pocket as much cash.
Pricce of the house is the same either way. Probably the skill level of each employee is going to be better.
Oh good. Now Americans can have those jobs.
It's actually the loss of slave labor using illegals. 🤣🤣🤣
This sounds like the only people who can build a house are Mexicans? Come on!!! Who built all the homes after WWII? Pretty sure it wasn’t the Jimenez Brothers?
CNN is very racist.
