A brief skim of the comments will tell you that he was arrested for carrying a religious knife in public after he had threatened to use it. Not arrested because of selling the wrong meat.
You cannot easily get guns in UK so there is a real problem with black gangs and knife crime. I'm fine with the coppers arresting people waving knives and swords around.
America has a long-standing trope (which may or may not only happen on TV and in movies, but has definitely been a trope) of someone trying to harass a store owner in this country, only to have a shotgun cocked in their face when they refused to vacate. Whether that actually happens in business, I don’t know, but it absolutely happens with home defense.
“Waving a knife” is the same thing, if the law won’t step in and enforce trespassing or aggressive behavior, the whole point of having weapons for self-defense is to defend your person and property and autonomy. Sure, it’s currently against your laws to do it there, but you’re gonna need to get comfy with it, and demand that right back, and quickly.
What did the Muslims do to get him to brandish the knife? I’m guessing it wasn’t “one man walked into the store and asked if he had halal options, and upon hearing ‘no’, said ‘ok, cheers mate!’ and left the store.”
If you Brits want to get free again, you’re gonna have to get comfortable with self defense coming from the people up, not from the government down. You either have the right to self-defense, or you don’t, and lawful self-defense should be the front line of civilization, not an emergency fallback if the bobbies can’t get there quickly enough.
