Putin had full oil tankers waiting up there right after the Alaska meeting... and then sanctions on them got lifted recently... Trump gave Russia a huge present.
The Strait will become less important as Arctic channels take over a decent chunk of traffic... and in many cases it'll be cheaper and faster than that bs choke point.
