The idea is to reinforce personal responsability not just for your actions, but your parenting skills are important to teach good citizens, not gang members.
This is often targeted at poor or urban neighborhoods where parenting is often in the lowest in the country.
It often succeeds when other programs are used to suppliment. Teaching parents how to parent, personal responsability programs, job programs, reduction in government handouts. Increase in church programs and outreach.
This one in DC should work to reduce crime as they are suplementing. Curfew for the target demographic, already have a tough on crime program, (actually enforcing the law), NOT catering to criminal elements, churches are stepping up outreach, etc.
These thugs are older teens. It is to late for parents to correct the thug life path they have chosen. Throw the little bastards in prison, and keep them there for a good long time. That is a lesson that might penetrate their thick skulls.
Some of the parents are just as big a thug as the children, and that is what they have been teaching them.
Yeah send them to juvenile detention didn’t we used to have those places? Make them work on chain gangs cleaning up the mess they’ve made. What’s hard about that?
Why give these hooligans a bed and free meals, they are obviously laying around until it’s time to party. Put their lazy asses to work. All for work farms or some type of labor intensive work to pay their debt to society. Put them in a situation that requires them to learn a skill so they can be a productive member of this nation.
Part of it is financial responsability, which most places parents already are financially responsable for what their dependants do, but it isnt enforced (blue states).
