Suzanne Humphries's book Dissloving Illusions has a lot of the history of the early push of vaccines. This is the only book I know that covers this history. One of my favorite all time books.

Description and comment from M.Dorothy George, 'Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires in the British Museum', VIII, 1947: The anti-vaccination forces, five men armed with shields and swords, advance from the middle distance, having descended a mountain on which is the 'Temple of Fame'; on an adjacent obelisk their names are inscribed: 'Mosley', 'Squirrill', 'Rowley', 'Birch', 'Lipscomb'. Their swords are inscribed 'Truth'. On each shield is a letter, the foremost 'M', the others 'S', 'R', 'L', and 'B'.
The leader, Benjamin Mosely, M.D. (1742-1819), physician to the Royal Hospital at Chelsea, published many controversial tracts and letters on cow-pox, besides interpolating a long dissertation against vaccination in 'A Treatise on Sugar', 1799. Regarding the New Free Offer of Radiant Energy: I hope you realize there is not a shred of evidence that such a thing is possible. Tesla's pipe dreams are not evidence. Dr. John Trump examined his final papers and pronounced them scientifically worthless. Don't get your hopes up.
A comparison to solar cells is unfortunate, as their materials extraction and fabrication consume more energy than they can deliver over their operational lifetime, and they are poisonous to dispose of. Beware of "free" technology; it often involves hidden costs.
Nuclear power, however, is abundant, safe, and we have immense resources. Wastes can be consumed by fast neutron reactors. All the "problems" can be dealt with by known means, but government restrains its use. I can't recall who made this remark, but "The perfect is the enemy of the good enough."
In the beginning it wasn't profitable. So who was funding it and why. It took a lot of effort over centuries to get where we are today with vaccines.
