Xi needs to try and make China great; lay low, be humble, stop messing around like a fuckin bully.
An Asian perspective might disagree. China in fact makes a big deal of how they pushed out the Japanese, despite Japan's early dominance. Many historians have argued that Japan surrendered because Russia abandoned their previous neutral position against Japan, and once they mobilized Japan's capitulation to the Americans was expedited to avoid being divided like Germany.
If the ccp want to “take” any country, they need to make sure to take care their own citizens first.
With the internal anger like that the Chinese people will probably cheer for the U.S. to take down the ccp, like the Iranian people.
Time is different now, more people are slowly seeing or feeling things despite the constant attempts to censoring everything.
There’s no more blind patriotism. China has 0 appeal to any one at the moment, In terms of annexation. It’s amusing in some way.
For us, it may actually be advantageous that China remains a commie country, because that keeps the nation from geting too strong.

We can only pray that God intervenes somehow. But without divine help, I don't see that happening. Xi would lose more face by appearing weak and giving in to the Americans if he lets Lai go. He is an example to the rest of Hong Kong that freedom is dead under CCP dominance. The CCP does not think like we do. They have nothing to gain by letting him go. Since when has the CCP ever cared about human rights or even trying to give the impression that they do.

Trump always tries to put a positive spin on things. We can be hopeful, but the CCP will not take any action that makes them domestically appear weak. That weakness would be seen as an attack against their legitimacy and could undermine CCP stability. It is always about face and stability. To hell with human rights as long as the stability is maintained and they save face. They don't feel the need to win points with the West over issues of human rights as they feel they are superior to the West anyway. When do you ever see the CCP give ground over issues involving human rights and dignity? They simply ignore the protests of other nations and continue with their brutality. They don't care - especially when it comes to Chinese people. This mindset of an imperial mandate of heaven to rule the Chinese people underlies their entire position on Taiwan. The mere fact that Taiwan exists as a functioning democratic society of Chinese people is an affront to the CCP's very legitimacy. It undermines their belief that Chinese people cannot possibly live under democratic governance. Taiwan is a constant burr under Xi's saddle.
Xi was extremely arrogant and disrespectful towards Trump to his face even though Trump was being very gracious. Trump's body language was very telling. He was not happy and at times seemed angry. When dealing with the CCP it is important to look beyond the optics and the public words. The signals are subtle, but they are there. Elon was hilarious.
Xi, even though he is on shaky ground within the Party, was trying to show dominance over Trump. Dig out previous photos of Trump and Xi together. What? Did Xi suddenly grow about 5 inches? On this visit Xi is now the same height as Trump? There is about 5 inches difference between the two men. Xi was wearing height extenders in his shoes. His gait when he walked was awkward. There was quite a bit of internet chatter from netizens about the height discrepancy. Also, Xi's hair recently was getting pretty grey. It appeared as though his hair was darkened so he did not seem so old for this visit.
At their last meeting before Trump left, Xi was sitting on a firmer higher seat cushion while Trump was given a softer chair cushion affecting his posture - very uncomfortable for a man over 6ft tall. Xi also took the posture of being on a throne. Looking at the images it seemed as though Trump was uncomfortable. This was all deliberate to make Trump appear weak for the home audience and even some Western media is running with the optics.
There is more but I will wait until I have had a chance to collaborate with other CCP watchers and get their inputs. I don't expect the Chinese to follow through with anything that was agreed to - even though there were no signed formal agreements out of this summit. We will see what Trump does in the next few days. He never lowers the boom right away. To me, despite the positive words, he did not seem too happy about the whole experience. Xi treated him very badly and I am not the only CCP watcher to think so.
