I’ve been jogging for about 10 years now. A couple weeks ago, I finally started to do some interval training (alternating between running fast and slow for about 2 mins each). No doubt it’s hard to do (it took me 10 years to commit to it!), but I’m really noticing my vo2 max start to improve. Running “hot” for several intervals during my workouts has been a God send for me. Highly recommend!
There is a doctor that did a huge study where he had people on a ketogenic diet and half the group did speed work. Some did aerobic exercises and jogging long distance. The sprinters built muscle and lost a lot more visceral fat.
I'll add a bit of history. The concept of Flow, or Flow State, as a psychological operating mode dates back to a software engineer working for Microsoft named Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi who, and this goes back to the 80s and 90s, designed video games. He developed the theory that well designed video games were highly addictive because the users entered a state of flow that they wish to stay engaged. Professional athletes also report a similar state of being when muscle coordination is locked in and play is going well. So instead of deliberating on what to do next, your body is moving based on information it instantly is processing. I've even heard it say the spine transmit information faster than the brain receives. Proof is that show Superhumans with Stan Lee where the Asian guy cuts the bullet.
