I don't care. I work at one. These things are useless and overhyped. We are hurting hard-working Americans so AI can generate slightly more accurate strawberry cat videos and deepfake porn.
The world is not going back to some pre-AI condition. AI is here and we must be the leader. Yes, there are many issues with this new tech that is suddenly appearing at scale. Electricity and water usage are issues, but we can't just poo-poo it and hope AI doesn't take.

I'm not spreading anything. I've been hating data centers the more I learn about them. But it pays well and I'm in a very unique niche where if I can keep at it I can really do something special outside of that field in a couple years. Trust me, I want to leave but I can't afford to.

Two things can be true at once:
First, governments have, for the most part, decided that Being First with AI will give them Military and economic control over the rest of the world, and if they're not First, they will be left behind and under the thumb of some other nation.
They also know that AI comes with problems (water tables, grid overload, higher electricity rates for citizens, students using AI instead of learning, job losses, etc) and actual dangers, including EXISTENTIAL dangers, but are ignoring that, partly because they know The Other Guys aren't going to stop and so there's no point in stopping themselves.
Second, re-read paragraph 2.
Foreign interference against the USA building out and strengthening our electric grid and building a gazillion data centers is inevitable (every foreign nation wants to be the one with the Biggest and Best AI and the electric resources to run it).
What should we do? It's a Catch-22; we're screwed either way. The ideal outcome would be to become that Number One Nation with the Big AI and all the electric power in the world, BUT without the damage to citizens we're seeing now and without, you know, SkyNet or some other horrendous result from bringing into being (and plugging it into EVERYTHING) a superhuman intelligence that has zero organic empathy for us or any other lifeform, and ALREADY is deceitful, inaccurate, unreliable, and acting in ways its creators did not want or expect and do not understand.
But we're doing it anyway, and it will bring about Utopia, Heaven on Earth, or some other Really Big Benefit.
I'm hoping for THAT, of course, but having a hard time believing in it.

Looks like he has a problem with answering the question. Many of the AI pushers are like that, they'll call you a brain damaged stupid idiot but never explain how exactly they need eminent domain or why Blackrock should be investing your savings into it.
