Nancy Pelosi caught heat for $59M in trades over 3 years. Trump just disclosed up to $750M in 3 months.
Nancy Pelosi disclosed about $59 million in trades over three years, which inspired a Senate bill bearing her name. But President Donald Trump disclosed up to $750 million in three months and only paid a $200 fine.
This is what the article does:
It superficially, without linking to the disclosures, constructs symmetrics: 1A. Pelosi disclosed trading. 2.B. Trump discloses, but was LATE i.e. past the mandatory filing date. 200 dollar fine.
In either case no transgression is asserted. only the appearance of it. Then the comparison in size: 59 vs 750 million. Wow......this is really BAD! Orange man BAD!
As if these two are comparable.
We know the Trump organization is trading.
And this is done in the open. Second: Trump warned his own staff NOT to trade on information the gleaned from their position.
However, in Piglousy's case: We know it is highly likely it is insider trading by her family.
So, you read the headline, the bullshit article, without asking the basic questions, and then expect answers here?
If this is close to your heart: investigate it. Fact check it.
This is a research board! I was at work and wanted to know if anyone had heard anything about it. Not sure why I'm the asshole for asking for opinions on this which is the whole point of the post
I’ve had republicans messaging me about trump’s “billions in insider oil trading”, so thanks for this!
Yahoo, not worth wasting time....
Lol yahoo finance.
If you ever want to read a dystopian TOS, go read Yahoo Mail’s.
Worse than Google.
Trump is investing in Apple, Intel, Oracle, Amazon, Meta, Nvidia and Palantir. He is betting on American stock market and rightfully so. It means US has a president that is betting on its own prosperity rather than some one elses.
For those who have been following how Trump has turned these companies by cutting their strings, and how they are all playing a key role in American prosperity, this is basic common sense and they probably have all this in their own portfolio.
So he filed it late and paid $200 fine? So you think he is doing what Pelosi did? Did Pelosi's wealth grow along with American prosperity?
To date I’m far less prosperous than 10 years ago. However, I’m also convinced that steps have been, and are being taken that will dramatically improve things on the other side of this, particularly for anyone who didn’t stick their fingers in their ears.
We will see where things end up, but I’m convinced the best is yet to come, and what’s a decade of pain to fix hundreds of years of crime?
"you think he is doing what Pelosi did?"
I was driving to work (work nights) and heard on the radio that Trump is investing in companies that are directly impacted by his policies (like Nvidia). I don't have an opinion one way or another, but it LOOKS really bad, which is why I was asking for clarification on here. I just posted the first article I could find, Yahoo.
Pelosi used her insider information to trade stocks, which I've seen people bitch about on this forum ad infinitum. I don't really see why I should be angry about that but okay with Trump doing (at least from what I can tell) similar things just because he's "betting on American prosperity". Maybe I'm off the mark on this but I don't really think anyone in politics should be trading stocks
No comparison
Throw her in jail and lose rhe key just like they did with Jan6ers.
Trump isnt doing it. Nut anybody with a brain knows manufacturing tech is coming back. Ill bet there are losses too but nobody reports thst, plus his money was already in the market. Not even the same issue.
I may be wrong but I don't think that Trump is actually doing it. I think that Trump has "outsourced" the trading to someone else during his presidency. So the trading is independent and not insider trading. Also, I don't know how much of the money really belongs to Trump. It may be in trust.
If you are a $billionaire, it is difficult not to make money even if you become a POTUS. You could be made to sell your home, businesses, shares etc and put the money into a bank but even then, the money would earn interest.
Trump outsourcing his own trading makes a lot of sense here
I have IRAs managed by a financial investment company. I have no idea what stocks they are buying or selling in advance of the transactions...and I don't care. They don't ask me what I know and I don't tell them anything (and I'm as ignorant as a cuckoo clock). So, if I make money, that makes me a crook?
