To all of you who want and need the effects of drink....why do you drink alcohol? Do you want the buzz or do you like the taste of the drink. I hate the taste of any beer. Hard liquor is the same. The only type of alcohol I've enjoyed is an Ameretto sour. Only for the taste because it's very similar to a citrus drink. I've always been inquisitive about someone who drinks and why they do so.
C5, good luck on your journey. It will be tough, but by God shining a light on your walk, you will be led to a wonderful place. Enjoy the journey. We are pulling for you.
I think people drink it for the buzz. Wine especially tastes like crap, never understood why drink it except for the buzz. Or perhaps to escape reality. After all, alcohol is really just another drug.
I am glad I left the beer industry but yes I love a cold beer. I actually think it tastes good. Especially German and Belgian beer.
I donโt really drink hard liquor other than a Margarita with my wife and I have red wine on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
I love carbonated beverages so I like beer and I like regular seltzer water especially the Waterloo brand a lot. Like I pound those Waterloos like they are a cheap beer lol. Carbonation and refreshing.
I have cut back my drinking a ton since leaving the beer industry but when you meet up with friends or are rewarding yourself I like a couple cold ones. For example I got a 3.7 GPA in Spring Quarter so I had some beers and chilled. I get where you are coming from though.
Most of the time people drink to loosen up or relax, which is fine. It is the classic social lubricant. The problems usually start when the line between feeling the effects of the drinks and being able to (if you're being honest with yourself) safely drive home get too thin. Once you cross that line the next big line you cross is the blackout/depravity/violence line. IMO if you even start having a problem with the first line you need to chill out on the booze. Remember guys: technically if you drink more than 1 drink every day you are an alcoholic.
Alcohol only does harm, congratulations on taking the first steps. It's been a little over a year sober for me and the first few weeks were the most difficult. Eventually it fades from thought, other than recalling destructive experiences.
I got either drunk or stoned on some type of drug every day for 30 years, right now I have 28 years clean and sober, if I can do it ANYONE can. Just remember this, I was at day 10 once!!!!
Cut out both alcohol and the miniature cigars. Got an EE systems cube. Even lost a little weight. It was so-so for the first couple of weeks, but now I sleep better and have regained my sense of smell. Never thought I would even give that stuff up but once you get over the initial hurdle, it's not that bad, actually.
Didn't you quit drinking a few years back?....Or was that more of a take a break for a while?....A very close friend of mine who used to drink 3 to 4 times a week for about 35 years only ever blacked out 2 or 3 times in their life and the last time was like 18 years ago....but 6 months ago they did get stuck waiting to sober up in their car and fell asleep (which was a bummer because her phone was dead and people were worried about her). I ended up having to have a long talk with her at the time :-/ She still drinks every once in a while but less than ever....I know some people though who drink a lot every day and never even get drunk. Their kidneys and liver will quit on them in the long run though...
You can do it brother. I'm on year 10. It doesn't get easier, but it does get better.
I'm on year 36,it got a lot easier for me over time.
Keep it up catsfive! 38 years here. One day at a time.

Nothing tastes better to me than a good scotch.

I'm just waiting for the pontiff to block me. That would be a feather in my cap! ๐
Are mods ever blocked here? Asking for a friend who sometimes has more than one glass of wine.
Otherwise seriously funny.

Good luck man. I just hit 5 weeks and so far so good. Stick with it, I will keep you in my prayers.

Awe, congratulations!!
Great. It's the best thing you could do for yourself. You'll be your whole self when the sh*t wears off.

Congrats! Keep going. Pray every day, hour and minute for Gods help when youโre feeling weak. God bless you.
For those who quit drinking, a question: Do you value more the words of those based on the length of sobriety?
Best is getting Parma ban on your main FB. Still don't know what I did.
KEK!
