I don't think it will make a difference. Democrats can nominate whoever they want... but Susan Collins (R) will win the election again.
Susan Collins is a "moderate Republican", and some people would call her a RINO. She will win her 5th term... and there isn't much the Democrats could do to stop it.

Democrats will vote without thought or reason for whomever is on the ballot that is a Dem. They would have still voted for Platner! They shouldn't have removed him from the ballot!
