Standing completely still, she invited the audience to use any of 72 objects on her however they wished, from a rose and feather to razor blades, knives, and even a loaded gun. At first, visitors were gentle, offering flowers and kisses. But as the hours passed, the atmosphere turned violent. Her clothes were cut away, her skin was sliced with razor blades, rose thorns were pressed into her stomach, and she was subjected to humiliation. When the performance ended, and Abramović began walking toward the audience, many fled rather than face her as a person again. Reflecting on the experience, she later said, "What I learned was that if you leave it up to the audience, they can kill you." Rhythm 0 became a defining work of modern art, exploring power, violence, responsibility, and the darker side of human behavior. More than 50 years later, it remains one of history's most disturbing and influential performance piece

Remember the Dingo baby scandal which was made into a film starring Meryl Streep? I have seen chatter that Abramović was at Ayers Rock at the time the baby was taken. Ayers Rock does have a cave mouth that doesn't appear on the tourist literature, some pictures of it say it was used for human sacrifices in the distant past.

Oh how I hate "performance art" and "found objects" and the rest of that happy horseshit a certain segment of the art world pushes on the public! I loathed it when I was in art school and my opinion hasn't changed in the ensuing decades since then.
I was forced to take a seminar run by one of these morons in order to graduate and let me clue you -- it's all part of a delusional package wherein their self-importance leads them to believe they're guiding the viewer to greater "truth". How it is they think they've come into possession of this "truth" is anyone's guess as I never found them to be any more enlightened than any other group of people.
So yes! This does not surprise me one bit! This nutcase is just another one of the aforementioned deluded artists who think they have some greater insight than the rest of humanity. These people are annoying as hell to talk to because they actually believe their own bullshit and you can't reason with them.

The truth? Well...fame in the art world (today) doesn't come because you're the best at what you do. I was advised (when I was in my early twenties) that I had a choice to make. To become truly famous -- one has to be willing to be promiscuous. I wasn't.
