Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Knock on effects of Covidiocy continue. The younger folks especially are feeling it. Long Covid is vaccine damage. https://brownstone.org/articles/the-hinge-of-history-was-2020/
living out in rural TX has its' challenges...couple days ago, ALL wifi/cell was totally out for almost a whole 24 hour period...first thought was "here we go"...then my thoughts went to alternative communications...have been looking at 2-way radios vs CB radio...any advice is appreciated, as i have no experience with either, but it was very weird having NO communication with "outside world"...later found out that some big co-ax cable had been cut about 50 miles away...
I’ll ask my husband for you. He’s into ham, cb & gmrs. He’s working on getting a radio you can text with your phone. See if there is a local radio club in your area. Most likely would be on facebook, unfortunately. I got him into the cb because I thought the grid would shut down. (Ten days darkness) I created a monster😂 I think legally you need a ham license to be on gmrs. It’s a test you have to take. Three levels but having 1st level will do the same as the top level.
appreciate your input...have been thinking CB, but want to know everything before i take the plunge...like you, "ten days darkness" weighing on me, and certainly hit home this week when local outage shut down everything!
His response: There’s many different types of alternative comms. I would suggest looking into meshtastic or meshcore which can provide an alternative way of texting with your cell phone without using the cellular service. Also, check into gmrs in your area but mostly I would suggest getting your amateur radio license and having some handheld radios setup for the repeaters in your area. That should get you started on your journey.
He has a cb in his work car. We keep gmrs radios in the car. He gets them on Amazon. You could probably get cb on facebook marketplace or eBay. Also new ones. If you need recommendations I’ll ask him.
pls ask him about best brands to invest in, and thank him for his help, and thank you as well!
For all types of radios? CB, ham & gmrs will require its own radio.
I hope you got some good sleep last night and now you are ready to kick butt today. I hope your coffee is just right. I hope that thing that has been trying to knock the wind out of your sails gets a beatdown. I hope you get a few minutes to yourself today to just close your eyes and say "Thanks, God, for having my back". I hope you get some sunshine today. If it's raining where your at, then I hope you get to enjoy the fresh sent of that rain. Go barefoot in the grass if possible. I hope your critics woke up late today because they forgot to set their alarm.
If it's rainy, come to the Sierras. We've got dry 90 degree weather and higher for the next 2 weeks and beyond.
One of my favorite Bill Hicks quotes:

What a ride. Thankful for God's omnipresence.

read an article yesterday about asian markets sending spot up overnight, then comex kicking it back down daytime...you were right on target, PBman2!

Just looked at the Noahide Laws thing on Wikipedia, only wanted to see if there’s any scriptural basis at all for any of it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Laws_of_Noah
It mentions that it’s Talmudic in origin, states that some of it is from scripture, then proceeds to go through one rabbinic debate and tractate after another. Pages upon pages.
I expect it’s probably mainly Talmudic, but nobody pointed at the primary sources for the claims. Absolutely unquestionable that the entry was written by a rabbi or a rabbinic student. Small wonder so many of them become lawyers, and similarly codify our statutory laws into giant manuals.
Nothing like digging early on a Friday morning. Enjoyed watching it as I didn't know about this Edmond OK guy. Couldn't help but note the name Armstrong matches the name of my interim Senator. My excessive connect-the-dot-itis kinda kicked in. 👍😎
