Riots Erupt Across US in Wake of Police Shootings BY ZACHARY STIEBER April 17, 2021 Updated: April 17, 2021 FacebookTweetEmail 5 Shares 24 Comments Demonstrations took place in a slew of major U.S. cities on Friday night, with some devolving into riots, in the wake of several deadly police shootings.
In Brooklyn Center, where 20-year-old Daunte Wright was fatally shot on April 11 after resisting arrest, a peaceful march swelled in size after returning to the police headquarters, and agitators began trying to tear down fencing protecting the building and lobbing projectiles at law enforcement.
Individuals wearing hockey gear, gas masks, and respirators, armed with weapons like baseball bats, got through a breach in the exterior fence, triggering law enforcement to order the crowd to disperse.
Most of those who had gathered did leave but the ones who did not were arrested, with upwards of 100 taken into custody.
“It left people behind who were intent to cause destruction and disorder. When somebody, a group of these people wearing masks are trying to cut down the fence to get into a safe area, their intentions are to cause harm either to the building or to the police officers and the deputies inside the fence. Again, violence is not going to be tolerated by myself or this operation. We need to grieve. We don’t need to have more problems with destruction,” David Hutchinson, the Hennepin County sheriff, told an early Friday morning briefing in the city.
Members of the crowd spraypainted “Death to Amerika [sic]” and “ACAB,” an anti-police acronym favored by the far-left Antifa network.

It’s not fair to those that protest peacefully when the violent ones come in. They have enough going on right now as it is,” added Tony Gruenig, Brooklyn Center’s interim police chief.
Rioters in Portland smashed windows at various businesses, including Nordstrom and Nike, and torched an Apple location, after police fatally shot a man at a nearby park.
Officers rushed to the scene to make targeted arrests, once again leaving law enforcement resources stretched too thin.

At 10:49 p.m., 79 calls were on hold.
Four people were arrested, though one was quickly released from jail. Firefighters put out the fires, with the extent of the damage not yet clear.
“No one is entitled to break windows, set fires, or attack police officers. If you choose to participate in this kind of criminal activity, you can expect to be arrested and prosecuted,” Chris Davis, Portland’s deputy police chief, said in a statement.
“None of this destruction tonight has anything to do with the important work of racial justice and reconciliation our community and our nation need at this critical time in our history.”

(Ethan Swope/AP Photo) A crowd of 250 to 300 demonstrators assaulted both a community member and a police officer, broke windows, spray-painted buildings, and set a car on fire in Oakland, California, officials there said.
No arrests were made and no citations were issued.
Demonstrators were upset about the shooting of Wright, as well as another recent police shooting in California, of Tyrell Wilson.
Kim Potter, the former officer who fired on Wright, was charged this week with second-degree manslaughter. Andrew Hall, the Danville officer who fatally shot Wilson when the man refused to drop a knife he was holding in March, was sued this week by Wilson’s family.
A police union official in Minnesota has said Wright would still be alive he had complied with orders while a union official in Illinois called the fatal shooting of Adam Toledo, a 13-year-old who was shot by an officer on March 29 after evading the police, justified.
In Chicago, protesters gathered Friday to speak out about the Toledo shooting.
“The rage does feel deeper now than it was even 24 hours ago or the start of the week,” Julie Wilson, one of the protesters, told CBS Chicago.
The crowd of approximately 1,000 clashed with police officers who arrived to disperse them from Logan Square Park. It was not clear if any arrests were made.

Fully Vaccinated Person Dies of COVID-19 in Texas, Officials Say BY ZACHARY STIEBER April 17, 2021 Updated: April 17, 2021 FacebookTweetEmail 46 Shares 39 Comments A person who was fully vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19 died of the disease in Texas, officials announced Friday.
One of the 15 deaths reported in Dallas County was an immunocompromised individual who had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine but was a solid organ transplant patient, Judge Clay Jenkins, the top elected official in the county, said in a statement.
“Immunocompromised individuals are still vulnerable to this deadly virus even after vaccination. If you have family members who are high-risk, it’s critical that you get the vaccine and avoid large crowds so that you can best protect them,” Jenkins said.
COVID-19 is the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.
Fully vaccinated refers to a person who has received two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson jab, followed by a period of at least two weeks.
Roughly 5,800 Americans have contracted COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated against the CCP virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told The Epoch Times on Thursday. The figures were for cases through April 13.
The federal health agency declined to provide a state-by-state breakdown.

But a CDC spokesperson said the figures were not unexpected, given that no COVID-19 vaccine provides more than 95 percent protection. As of April 15, more than 78 million people were fully vaccinated against the virus in the United States.
“To date, no unexpected patterns have been identified in case demographics or vaccine characteristics,” the spokesperson said in an email.

All of the available vaccines have been proven effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalizations, and deaths. However, like is seen with other vaccines, we expect thousands of vaccine breakthrough cases will occur even though the vaccine is working as expected.”
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told members of Congress during a hearing in Washington this week that in some cases, the breakthroughs are caused by “failure of an immune response in the host.”
Others may stem from the virus variants that are circulating, she added.
“We are keeping a close eye on this. We are reaching out to all of our state health officials as well as to our hospitals to make sure that people who are identified as a breakthrough infection, defined as two weeks after your second dose, or two weeks after your final dose, so that we can identify the cases that we’re having,” she said.

An undated social media selfie photo shows Ashley Babbitt, also spelt Ashli. (Ashli Babbitt/Twitter)MORE US NEWS No Charges Against Officer Who Shot Ashli Babbitt: DOJ Lawyer for Babbitt's family calls decision 'baffling' BY ZACHARY STIEBER April 14, 2021
The U.S. Capitol Police officer who shot dead an Air Force veteran during the tumultuous events on Jan. 6 will not be charged, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Wednesday.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division decided jointly not to pursue charges against the officer.
The decision came after a “thorough investigation” into the shooting of Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old who joined others in storming the U.S. Capitol in Washington during a joint session of Congress in January. Babbitt was shot while trying to climb through a broken window into the Speaker’s Lobby, adjacent to the House chamber.
“Officials examined video footage posted on social media, statements from the officer involved and other officers and witnesses to the events, physical evidence from the scene of the shooting, and the results of an autopsy,” the DOJ said in a statement.
“Based on that investigation, officials determined that there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution.”
The officer remains unidentified in the public sphere. A lawyer representing him did not return a voicemail or an email.

Terrell Roberts, an attorney for the family, told The Epoch Times that the decision was “baffling.”
“I find it to be baffling given the circumstances that it’s a clear case of shooting unarmed person without any legal justification, but I have no idea what went into their decision,” Roberts said.
RELATED Man Who Witnessed Ashley Babbitt Shooting Recounts the Tragedy Man Who Witnessed Ashley Babbitt Shooting Recounts the Tragedy The family plans to move forward with a lawsuit against the officer for an excessive use of force.
Babbitt’s death was caused by the gunshot, which hit her left shoulder, the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled last week. The manner of death was homicide.
The DOJ said its probe focused on seeing whether federal prosecutors could prove that the officer violated any federal laws.
“The investigation revealed no evidence to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer willfully committed a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 242,” it said.
“Specifically, the investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber. Acknowledging the tragic loss of life and offering condolences to Ms. Babbitt’s family, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and U.S. Department of Justice have therefore closed the investigation into this matter.”

A group of former President Donald Trump’s cabinet members and senior advisors launched the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) on Tuesday to further “policies that put the American people first”—a move Trump applauded.
“The America first Policy Institute is launching to continue the transformative changes that happened over the last four years,” AFPI President and CEO Brooke Rollins said in a video released Tuesday.
Rollins was the director of the Domestic Policy Council in the Trump Administration. Before that, she ran the White House Office of American Innovation.
“The Trump Administration’s policy agenda created the greatest economy of our lifetimes,” Rollins continued in a statement. “We’re going to innovate and advocate for policies to put the American people first. This means securing our Nation’s border, reviving American industry, reasserting American primacy, and most of all, restoring American optimism.”

“The patriots assembling the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) are some of the greatest champions for freedom, free enterprise, national greatness, and the primacy of American workers, families, and communities, that our Nation has ever seen,” Trump said in a statement. “Linda McMahon, Brooke Rollins, Larry Kudlow, Rick Perry, General Kellogg, and the rest of the freedom warriors at AFPI have my full support as they work not only to preserve the historic accomplishments of my Administration but also to propel the America First Agenda into the future. I look forward to working with them to save America.”
Linda McMahon, the Administrator of the Small Business Administration during the Trump administration, serves as Chair of the AFPI board. McMahon was also one of the top donors to the Trump 2020 campaign.
“We will not stop working until the government truly serves the people first,” McMahon said in the statement.
Trump’s economic advisor Larry Kudlow serves as vice-chair of the board.
Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, and former Vice President Mike Pence’s National Security adviser, General Keith Kellogg, will co-chair AFPI’s Center for American Security. Ratcliffe indicated that he is “grateful for the opportunity.”
Trump’s Secretary of Energy Rick Perry serves as chairman of the Center for Energy Independence.
AFPI said its work would be divided by 20 policy centers led by 40 of the most qualified servant leaders from the Trump Administration and the conservative movement.

Vaccine Mandatory for Buffalo Bills Games: NY County Executive BY JACK PHILLIPS April 14, 2021 The county executive in Erie County, New York, suggested that COVID-19 vaccinations will be mandatory to attend Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres games in person.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, a Democrat, told news outlets Tuesday that “there is no God-given right to attend a football game.”
“No Vaccine = No Entry” is what a slide that was displayed by Poloncarz read during his press conference Tuesday. Poloncarz said he spoke with Bills’ management about his plan.
“I want to see that stadium full, I know the Bills want to see that stadium full. We want to return fans back to the stadium,” Poloncarz said in a news conference. “That’s why the county supports returning all fans to the stadium and (hockey) arena for this fall … We know there’s a way to do it. We know there’s a way to ensure it. That’s that all fans and staff are fully vaccinated.”
Poloncarz added that “unless you are vaccinated, you will not have entry to the stadium,” adding that “we can then guarantee 70,000-plus people at the stadium.” He said that medical and religious exemptions will not be accommodated.
To do this, Poloncarz said he wants to use the state’s recently rolled-out vaccine passport-type system Excelsior. Such passport-type systems have been criticized by civil liberties groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and were banned via executive orders by the governors of Texas and Florida.
In a statement to The Epoch Times, a spokesman for Erie County said the move “will ultimately affect fans from outside of state/Canada (when the border opens up), but (like local fans) they would also be expected to produce proof of vaccination to enter the stadium or Key Bank Center.”

The New York State Department of Health issued a statement to local news outlets following Poloncarz’s remarks.
“The New York State Department of Health continues to work closely with the Buffalo Bills on the plan to return fans to the stands this fall, in accordance with the State’s guidance on professional sports competitions with spectators and all applicable laws and regulations,” the agency said.

“Mark Poloncarz should spend less time killing businesses, ruining our economy, and destroying the dreams of die-hard Bills fans watching games in person again,” he said, according to the Buffalo News.

142 Fully Vaccinated People in Houston Test Positive for COVID-19 BY LORENZ DUCHAMPS April 14, 2021 More than 140 people in Houston have tested positive for COVID-19 more than two weeks after being fully vaccinated against the virus that causes it, health experts in the Texas city confirmed.
According to data provided by the Houston Health Department, the number of Houstonians who caught the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus after being fully vaccinated is 142—or 0.02 percent of residents in the city who have been fully vaccinated, The Houston Chronicle reported.
The data of the potential so-called vaccine “breakthrough cases” go back to January when the first wave of recipients received a full vaccination. Breakthrough cases refer to COVID-19 cases that appear in people more than two weeks after they have been fully vaccinated against the CCP virus.
COVID-19 is caused by the CCP virus, commonly referred to as the novel coronavirus, which originated in China in late 2019.
Dr. David Persse, the city’s chief medical officer, said residents getting infected after being fully vaccinated is “not unexpected” because the jab doesn’t grant recipients 100 percent immunity.
“This vaccine is not dissimilar from other vaccines in that it gives you some level of protection, but no vaccine is 100 percent effective,” Persse said.
Experience the best way to read The Epoch Times online. Try our free app for a limited time.
“While tens of hundreds of thousands have been vaccinated, in a community that still has viral spread, it’s not too big of a surprise there are a small number of people who have become infected,” he added.
MOST READ 142 Fully Vaccinated People in Houston Test Positive for COVID-19 US Lawmakers Condemn ‘Reprehensible’ Attack on Hong Kong Epoch Times’ Printing Press None of the Houstonians that tested positive for COVID-19 after receiving the jab required hospitalization, Persse said, saying symptoms are usually incredibly mild with vaccinated people testing positive compared to unvaccinated people.
Fully vaccinated refers to people receiving both doses of the vaccines produced by Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech. A third option, from Johnson & Johnson—which is currently suspended in the United States after reports of rare blood clots among recipients—is a single dose.
According to U.S. drug regulators, Pfizer’s vaccine is 95 percent effective in preventing infection of the CCP virus. Moderna’s was shown in a clinical trial to be 94.1 percent effective, while Johnson & Johnson’s was 66.9 percent effective. The percentages are for two weeks after the final vaccination.
RELATED Fauci: No Concern About Number of People Testing Positive After COVID-19 Vaccination Fauci: No Concern About Number of People Testing Positive After COVID-19 Vaccination A number of U.S. states have recently seen similar infections among Americans who are fully vaccinated, including Idaho, Florida, Michigan Minnesota, South Carolina, and Washington.
Michigan data shows 246 residents tested positive for COVID-19 more than two weeks after being fully vaccinated. Eleven of the residents were hospitalized and three died, a spokesperson with the state Department of Health and Human Services (MDDHS) told The Epoch Times via email. The people who died were all 65 years of age or older.
In Washington, more than 100 people tested positive after being fully vaccinated, authorities said on March 31. Of those recipients, eight patients required hospitalization, and two have died. All contracted the virus more than two weeks after being fully vaccinated.
“Finding evidence of vaccine breakthrough cases reminds us that, even if you have been vaccinated, you still need to wear a mask, practice socially distancing, and wash your hands to prevent spreading COVID-19 to others who have not been vaccinated,” Washington Secretary of Health Umair Shah said in a statement.
Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told reporters during a virtual briefing the number of so-called breakthrough COVID-19 cases is not a cause for concern.
“I think the important thing is to look at what the denominator of vaccinated people is, because it is very likely—and what we’re hearing at least indirectly, and we’re certainly going to be confirming that—that that number of individuals who were breakthrough infections is not at all incompatible with a 90-plus percent vaccine efficacy. So, I don’t think that there needs to be concern about any shift or change in the efficacy of the vaccine,” Fauci said.
