I get a feeling, from what I am seeing on the net and hearing things here and there, that Wednesday is going to be even bigger, it being July 17 and all. 7/17 is somewhat of a personal date for me, as 42 years ago I stood in the MEPS station in Los Angeles and swore an oath as I enlisted in the Navy. Weird, eh?
Thanks, Berlin o7
Always look forward to your well-reasoned responses, bubble. You're spot on. Too many people reacting too emotionally to many events, when the best thing to do is give it time to settle down.
I keep getting this weird feeling that this entire business with Vance being the VP pick is not all it seems. Something is just not right. Granted, I hope it works out for the best, but there's just something bugging me about it and I can't quite out my finger on it. Here's an interesting link post in case anyone was wondering: https://x.com/DrC_IET17/status/1812944147743195606
Tell you what, find a way to get Jason Statham on board, along with Chuck Norris. Those dudes are total badasses. Call it the Beekeeper / Texas Ranger detail. That would be epic.
I'll tell you what, if this is what totalitarian fascism looks like when Trump is elected, I'll take it. How many freaking times must he be charitable and giving of himself to where people finally wake the hell up?
Initial shock wearing off after a couple of glasses of Scotch. Why do I get the nagging feeling that Trump knows what the fuck he is doing? That's probably because he knows what the fuck he is doing.
Semper Fi, Do Or Die. Hoorah!
Smartest comment on the board today.
He is young and capable of stepping up to the plate should something happen to the Boss Man. That being said, I have learned over time that the thrill of the chase is hard to beat, but when the chase is over, it is a huge anti-climax. People make mistakes and say stupid things sometimes, and Vance is no exception - and dare I say, neither is Trump. I'm going to wait and see, maybe Vance matured a little, and shit, he is a United States Marine, so that tugs at me a little bit since I lost a few friends along the way when they served in the Corps, and I was in the Navy. Throughout all this, I keep thinking "Trump knows what he is doing." Maybe he didn't the first time, but I sure as hell believe it now. Let's give the guy a chance. Trump made his choice, let's get behind the ticket and kick some ass in the next few months.
Well, now that Trump has chosen Vance and the anticipation has abated, it is time to get behind this ticket and do everything we can to support it. I really didn't care who he picked for VP, it could have been Marvin the Martian, and I still would have supported it especially considering what took place on Saturday. On the bright side, Vance is young enough to be quite capable should he need to step in. Let's hope this works out for the best.
Well, at least it looks like he would be able to step in if, God forbid, something were to happen to the Boss man.
Yeah, I saw that too, but it's okay. Got more positive responses than I expected, and that tells me the caliber of the people on this board is second to none.
You are quite welcome, my dear.
This could be one of the most iconic speeches of the 21st century.
Requiem aeternum dona es Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.
About as based as they come. Spot on all the way.
I can think of quite a few fellow Brother Veterans who would jump at the chance to provide security for the Boss Man, and they've got the skills to back it up. About everyone I spoke to yesterday after the event had about the same initial thought: "Uh-oh. Now Trump is really pissed."
This started way back in the fifties and sixties with the feminist movement, and now here we are.
Eerily like Pearl Harbor, for some reason. Weird.
Well-stated, neighbor.
Oh, now you can imagine the flack I caught when I was discussing firefighting with some people a few years back, and how women have no place in that world. I was ridiculed, scorned, and even eschewed by a couple of family members - and this was about firefighting, not a security detail. My argument centered on physics: I am 6'3, 300#. Used to box and weightlift and have fought a few fires in my day. If I'm wearing all the necessary equipment, including oxygen tanks, and I go down for some reason and you have to drag me out of a compartment, a petite female who might be a badass back at the station is not going to be able to do it, period - and I would die. Simple physics - with equipment, I'm pushing 360#, plus there is the phenomenon of "dead weight." Rescue simply will not happen. This is what you get, folks. This is what you get.
Understatement of the year: I miss this woman - her grace, class, stoicism, beauty, along with a million other positive adjectives. I am not a terribly religious person, but this shows me that if there are angels, they walk the earth, and she is leading them.
Yeah, I noticed that came out pretty quick. Amazing how outlets will try and get a jump on things, although it is not at all surprising in the days of 24/7 news cycles.
